Not really a comment on the current record, but there's a curious nostalgia about RAVE that bubbles under the surface with a lot of the Rephlex and Warp crews. Y'know back in the day rave, 1991, pre CANDI, pre Progressive-Trance and Progressive-House, yadda yadda. Hell I'm nostalgiac for that! Not to mention the whole nostalgia for Acid Techno. A lot of early 90s Aphex Twin was already nostagic tributes to early Detroit Acid tracks. Good ol Aphex Twin SH101 + 606 + R8 through MS20 ... On Mon, 16 Jun 2003, qwerty wrote:

I'm really glad I didn't buy this. It's quite possibly the most worthless release aphex has ever put out. For real, I'd rather put the promo sandpaper record on. No imagination, no innovation, nothing redeeming at all. The "listenable" track isn't even exclusive. Someone please tell me its all a big joke. N.

It's not. However, the a-side is ace and the 2 others are growing on me. The remix is "exclusive" as it's not going to be on the next Bug single (Gun Disease) Obviously Aphex has got into noise - Maybe touring with Satanstornade did it? On the noise tip, has anyone checked out the recently released Merzbow remix set? Very nice work from Plug and Bola amongst others. -i. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Hey Shawn. Thanks for the post. I've downloaded it, but when running the program it acts like it's going to launch and then quits almost immediately. Am I missing something? Does it only run on Jaguar? Curious. -vis-you On Thursday, June 19, 2003, at 01:39 AM, Shawn Hatfield wrote:

Now we're talking .... I haven't seen a full blown noise discussion here for ages. Does anyone have any good noise recommendations? Merzbow is the king as far as I'm concerned and can be surprisingly subtle with his more ambient noise recording - but I've been getting into K K Null recently as well. Oh, and V/VM's blue version of Sometime Good Things Happen is also worth checking out. I saw Four Tet a while ago and was surprised at how noisy it was - he was basically remixing his tracks live using Audiomulch and manged to mutate some of them into pure noise loops. Recommended if you can catch him live. Glenn
