XM is two satellites, named "Rock" and "Roll". While they transmit an RF
signal, is it not comparable to landbased radio( or television) tower
transmissions. It is a digitized signal, which requires a decoder in
addition to a receiver. In addition, with satellite radio, if there is
any problem with the signal, or you drive into a tunnel, you get no
reception, where as with traditional radio, you get a lower quality
signal, i.e. static or crossover of other nearby strong signals, or
multipath(from nearby hills or big buildings)

That's basically what satellite radio is. I believe the other provide is
named Cerius??? They're basically on the east side of the US, and Non-
GM cars. I used to work at Boeing Satellite Systems which manufactured
and launched them, and is owned by GM, so I never bothered to get too
familiar them the other guys. However, from what I understand, there is
a significant difference in the digital signal processing technology in
the other birds, for those who might be interested in that sort of
thing. But if you want it on a cell phone, that would add a few pounds
to the weight of the cell phone. Once the satellite radio market gets
established, then the receiver/decoder hardware might be reduced in size
and incorporated into other devices. But there's other issues with
adding satellite radio to a cell phone, like speakers and power issues.

It's not _quite_ that simple. To stream, you need to purchase real media
steams, which are quite expensive.
You basically gotta have a pipe instead of a straw, which is how even a
dsl connection would compare.
