I'd say it was interesting, experimental indie rock that uses electronics. It isn't IDM by any manner of means, but that's not a compelling reason to slate it. Although I can think of valid reasons to dislike it (matters of taste, as always), I rather suspect a degree of 'if-the-indie-kids-like-it-we-can't-admit-to-it-being-good' elitism. (And if anyone's thinking of flaming me on this, I'm sure that you fall into the former category.) Now for somehing else not quite IDM. Can anyone recommend bits of the genre that seems to have become electroclash? Preferably the stylish but eclectic electro / house end rather than the Gary Numan B-side with beefed up beats variety. Compilations would be good, as I'd be interested to get a cross section before spending big money. Jeez! Since you mailed this, I've been on the lookout for that edition of the mag - being down at the bottom end of Africa, things take a little while to trickle through, but I managed to buy it this morning !! Yah, hooray :-) Lots of fun tracks. Although the printed 'sticker' on the cover says includes tracks by among others TIGA, I cannot find any mention of a Tiga track on the actual t/listing among the 19 tracks included, unless he's got some pseudonym. Not that I'm unimpressed; this one's a goodie, for sure. Will liven up many a party moment come summertime (we're heading that way down south, as we are). I think it's great how the current "Electroclash" (TM!!) has given me permission to play 80's cheezy stuff with a poker face and be cutting edge at the same time... wow :-) Last Friday I played the arched eyebrow version of Tainted Love by Impedance (on Playgroup's excellent DJ-Kicks comp) alongside the read deal by Soft Cell, for instance. There's also a bumpy ride of a remix of Sade's Love is Stronger than Pride, Tiga re-doing Sunglasses at Night... not to mention Human League popping up all over - what NEXT? "Electroclash" versions of -late- 80's jams from the likes of Cinderella, Mr Big, Damn Yankees, and even a Kenny Loggins megamix. Finally I'll be able to rock double copies of Warrant's "Cherry Pie" album without irony.... - cutups --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Yeah, I noticed that as well, but hey, who cares about the music as long as people *think* you are listening to the latest sounds ;-)

wasn't crazy about himawari, actually, but i had picked it up because of the packaging... i think that to like the new album you'd have to at least in some fashion enjoy all the current trendy electroclash stuff (which i enjoy perhaps more than i ought to ;). anyone gone to any of larry tee's electroclash things? his tour's coming through soon, and while i do like chicks on speed, i don't really care for tracy and the plastics or peaches... don't know anything about WIT or the other acts there though, if i recall correctly. worth going maybe for the atmosphere or other acts? ===== )the fawn )"i thought when i started playing )shows i'd meet a lot of really cool )people, but most of the people i've )met just want me to copy software )for them" __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? speaking of electroclash, the german duo "Tok Tok" has finally released their full-length "Tok Tok vs. Soffy O", which features the female swedish singer Soffy O on all of the tracks. actually, it's quite good. i'm not a fan of that electroclash stuff at all, but that's a fun record with funny and interesting vocals/lyrics. nothing spectacular, but it's a nice effort after all. »Eikman« -] http://www.eikman.net [- ----- Original Message ----- From: "J.P.L'asthme Fawn" <ignorantdancemusic@yahoo.com> To: <idm@hyperreal.org> Sent: Monday, October 07, 2002 12:09 PM Subject: Re: [idm] new swayzak n electroclash tour

I've found myself liking some of this electroclash quite a lot (perhaps a bit more than I ought to) and am actually considering to purchase an electroclash album. So, an obvious question follows: what would you recommend? Also, what do you think are the finest electroclash tracks you have heard? I've enjoyed Adult's 'Hand to Phone' considerably and have thought about buying their Resuscitation-album. How good is it? Or should I perhaps buy a compilation of some sort, for example something from the International Deejay Gigolos? Try Invasion Planete from France (Toulouse) or all the goodies from Den Haag (Viewlexx, Bunker, Clone...). Specially Ferenc aka I-F or Parallax Corp. Those are the real creators of this sound back in 1998. I think you have to forget the International Deejay Gigolos... (except Fischerspooner) You'll only find some poor copies of the others mentioned ! x.b. -----Original Message----- From: visa k [mailto:v.kuoppala@pp.inet.fi] Sent: mardi, 26. novembre 2002 16:32 To: idm@hyperreal.org Subject: [idm] electroclash I've found myself liking some of this electroclash quite a lot (perhaps a bit more than I ought to) and am actually considering to purchase an electroclash album. I had my first exposure to electroclash last month when I saw a concert featuring W.I.T, Peaches, Chicks on Speed, and other clash artists here in Detroit. For an up and coming genre that revolves around image and sex (for the most part), I found it strangely addicting. I'm fond of required tastes though, I have many...lol Albums aren't always easy to find, most of my electroclash is what I've burned from my "clash dealer," so to speak, or what I've downloading. At the moment I have a 2 disc Peaches and some Fisherspooner, both awesome. Soulseek, your electro file sharing mecca, will have a lot of course. ~Chandra~ ~Chandra~ We are obsession's fancy tickled by the seducer created in facets known untraveled Visit my words at: Chandra Marsden's PostPoems Portfolio http://www.postpoems.com/members/phluteloop tickled by the seducer created known untraveled." I would go with anything on Ersatz Audio if you're looking for the coolest in style and attitude. Incidentally, Ersatz have been doing this for years, way before the "electroclash" label was ever conceived. They also have a compilation out called "Misery Loves Company" that I'd recommended. There is also some seriously cool electro stuff on the "Hotel Stadt" compilation out of Germany. ~Paul --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

despite her suffering from a severe case of overexposure, the Miss Kittin and the Hacker collaborative album on Gigolo is really great. i also enjoyed her collaborations with Golden Boy on his "Or" album on Ladomat2000. if you like "hand to phone" by Adult you should pick up "resuscitation" as it's more of the same, with a few even better tracks like "pressure suit" and "nausea." I really personally like the Peaches and Chicks on Speed stuff although they don't sound very similar to one another, nor do they sound similar to most of what's tagged "electroclash"... Peaches is more of a DIY indie sound, all on a groovebox, and Chicks on Speed's K Records release runs the gamut from new wave (B-52's covers) to noise (courtesy of treatments from Gerhard Potuznik and Patrick Pulsinger). Other recommendations: Hakan Lidbo "Sexy Robot" (Lasergun) Alek Stark "Highway to Disko" (Disko B) TokTok vs. Soffy O "Missy Queen's Gonna Die"/"Missy Queen Remixes" (B Pitch Control) Sascha Funke "When Will I Be Famous" (B Pitch) Smash TV "Electrified" (B Pitch) Ladytron "604"/"Light & Magic" (Emperor Norton) there are good comps on Gigolo (the new 2CD Vol. 6 is worth getting), Ersatz Audio (Adult's label), also B Pitch comps although mostly that label trascends "electroclash" with more interesting material, more IDM crossover and techno appeal (actually one of my favorite labels alongside Kompakt)... m.mercer :: design + sound design :: http://www.matthewmercer.com/ sound :: http://www.mattmercer.com/ _________________________________________________________________ MSN 8 helps eliminate e-mail viruses. uhm, real creators? this sound is over 20 years old. it never really went away, it's just now getting more exposure. don't get me wrong, i like some of the stuff that's coming out right now, but ersatz is doing nothing new, and neither are the artists... -k --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

no question that what they're doing isn't new, they just do it particularly well i think. :) the point is that ersatz are often labelled as being part of this electroclash thing, but in fact they were around way before the genre was dreamt up. ~paul --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Forgive me cause I know this thread cropped up a few weeks back but I didn't pay any attention to it..... I found this radio documentary on the BBC radio website this afternoon.........amazing what you'll come across as you're "watching/reading" Newcastle lose their FA Cup tie.........about this "new" genre of techno. I've been having an absolute blast wandering through Peaches, Fischerspooner, Chicks on Speed, Green Velvet, and the like. It has all the lasting power of the Cheeky Girls but I'm loving every minute of it. Check it out! http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/alt/stevelamacq/documentaries/clashelectro_20020708.shtml dave-o
