I'm probably gonna sound a little crazy here, but I'm thinking of getting a tattoo... nothing lavish, just something small and simple. Here in the UK I am a little sick of Japanese/Chinese characters and all that tribal stuff, so I thought, how about an IDM one? Problem is, I only know of the Aphex logo and Plaid's tv-type logo. Does anyone have any suggestions/artwork which I could immortalise on my arm? Offlist if you want, but ideas would be welcome. Rich --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. The IDM'est tattoo would be to get large sans serif numbers on your extremities (1-4 on hands and feet, and then 5 as a bonus right above the bellybutton) Or the old IDM logo (modeled on the IBM logo) on your back/shoulder Or the old Warp logo, etc. etc. The big problem is that IDM graphic design is all about pixels and sans typefaces, which are notoriously hard to render correctly with needle and flesh - the best place for straight lines is the back of the neck, and that shit HURTS according to anecdotal evidence, plus it's nigh-impossible to hide. Personally I think tattoos are far too expensive - the $200 or so that you blow on ink is better spent on records, 'gear' or equipment. Sleep on it. Yeah, spend it on something that would look like ass in ten years. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Until about 1990 or so, the only tatoos I saw were on sailors, bikers, felons, and trailer park hotties. I grew up associating tatoos with blurry anchors covered with liver spots. Not an appetizing image, but one I expect will become all too common 30 or 40 years from now. 'Hey Grandpa, how come you got a flaming skull with syringes stabbing the eyeholes on yer arm?' I feel so, so, lucky that I didn't tatoo anything on myself when I was 18. I shudder to think what it might have been! Having a permanent record of your #1 obsession when you were 18 in 99% of cases will be the occasion of massive regret. Oh, and if you're going to get an IDM tatoo you should get one done of a Max Patch: http://www.interlog.com/~speeb/images/dillpatch99.gif On Sat, 26 Oct 2002, Andrew Hime wrote:

go for something really old skool. in 1991 warp sometimes used a "global logo" that didn't actually say warp on it. here it is on the cover of "pioneers of the hypnotic groove": http://www.warprecords.com/pack221/WARP2/ it's the orange logo on blue, with "bass" written on it. there's a good b/w pic of it inside sleeve (without "bass"). they did some t-shirts of it, too. love that compilation. well worth getting if you haven't got the "classics 89-92" comp. hs -- "it'll be less limited after I rip it onto my laptop!" - don letts --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
