I'd say it was interesting, experimental indie rock that uses electronics. It isn't IDM by any manner of means, but that's not a compelling reason to slate it. Although I can think of valid reasons to dislike it (matters of taste, as always), I rather suspect a degree of 'if-the-indie-kids-like-it-we-can't-admit-to-it-being-good' elitism. (And if anyone's thinking of flaming me on this, I'm sure that you fall into the former category.) Now for somehing else not quite IDM. Can anyone recommend bits of the genre that seems to have become electroclash? Preferably the stylish but eclectic electro / house end rather than the Gary Numan B-side with beefed up beats variety. Compilations would be good, as I'd be interested to get a cross section before spending big money. If you're in the UK then check out the current issue if Muzik magazine which has CD on the cover, mixed by Miss Kitten. It has the current electroclash faves along with Panasonic, Arpanet and Thomas Brinkmann DavidASim@aol.com wrote:

Jeez! Since you mailed this, I've been on the lookout for that edition of the mag - being down at the bottom end of Africa, things take a little while to trickle through, but I managed to buy it this morning !! Yah, hooray :-) Lots of fun tracks. Although the printed 'sticker' on the cover says includes tracks by among others TIGA, I cannot find any mention of a Tiga track on the actual t/listing among the 19 tracks included, unless he's got some pseudonym. Not that I'm unimpressed; this one's a goodie, for sure. Will liven up many a party moment come summertime (we're heading that way down south, as we are). I think it's great how the current "Electroclash" (TM!!) has given me permission to play 80's cheezy stuff with a poker face and be cutting edge at the same time... wow :-) Last Friday I played the arched eyebrow version of Tainted Love by Impedance (on Playgroup's excellent DJ-Kicks comp) alongside the read deal by Soft Cell, for instance. There's also a bumpy ride of a remix of Sade's Love is Stronger than Pride, Tiga re-doing Sunglasses at Night... not to mention Human League popping up all over - what NEXT? "Electroclash" versions of -late- 80's jams from the likes of Cinderella, Mr Big, Damn Yankees, and even a Kenny Loggins megamix. Finally I'll be able to rock double copies of Warrant's "Cherry Pie" album without irony.... - cutups --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
