Because I'm certain some mainland Chinese guy who's not even allowed to access Google except through a proxy server is going to get the brilliant idea to rip off a relatively obscure british techno label. Yeah, cybersquatting sounds about right. </sarcasm> I doubt it's anything other than the company having its thumb up its ass. the DNS registration business is a case of far too many fish in the bowl - pretty difficult to keep more than a handful of businesses profitable in an int'l commodity market. Isn't VeriSign about to lose its license to provide DNS services? in the states there actually is a procedure to get your domain back but the cost for a small label to do that isnt worth what yr usually asked to stump up to pay in terms of costs & fees to everyone. not sure if the uk has a similar law & even tho the net is international & a few cases have tried to extend us law everywhere else (like the russian guy who got arrested when he arrived in the states for the Adobe Acrobat scenario) it's not clear whether or not this will extend to other places or scenarios. for example, i recently asked somebody from the PRS the Performing Rights Society in the UK whether internet stations in the UK (like http://www.bbc.co.uk/1xtra and http://www.jazzfm.com etc) were going to have to pay CARP rates and they said no because the servers werent located in the States and they were already paying blanket license fees for playing music online & on the air. sorry for being late to jump in on this one, its been a hectic september.
