The "2 Many DJ's" comp on PIAS is a fantastic compilation of mashup style boots and other amazing trans-genre party freakouts. It's compiled by the DJs of Radio Soulwax which I believe are the guys who broke the whole mashup/bootleg scene wide open last year. Absolutely a masterpiece. What's even more amazing is the fact that they got all the samples cleared. Highlights: Destiny's Child + 10cc Skee-lo + Breeders Detroit Grand Pubahs + New Order It's all done with a ton more style and pizzaz than most of the bootlegs out there, these guys obviously put a crazy amount of work into it. Well worth the import price. regardless of whether its a "mash up" a journey by dj's" or a remix compilation, they were clearing more than samples, they had to license the tracks slight difference because in a sample you're using xx seconds vs using more on a mix.. the highlight for me on 2 many dj's is the peter gunn intro by emerson, lake & palmer. if you get a chance to catch strictly kev(dj food), he's been playing mashups for a while... did a whole heap of em at the warp magic bus tour in london bout a month ago... too long ago now to remember the mad combinations. there must be about 20 - 30 missy elliots out there by now.... It doesn't make much sense, but maybe the UK press coined the term as most of the mixes aren't cleared and therfore "illegal". most also "Suck"... DS
