Howdy. How come there is no really good websites for news and info on idm? I have yet to find one that represents what is, essentially, a very coherent scene. (well, movement) (I know many of those artists we all listen to have nothing really in common, but we ALL listen to the same core artists.) All we have are label sites and act sites. We need a really good site that brings the whole thing together. If this site exists, and I just don't know about it - please let me know. Oh yeah, matter of interest, anyone from dublin on this list? cheers, Hew P.S. my friend david won't publicise his music cos he's just begun, but I think the bottom 3 tracks at www.ramdis.com/skism.html are well worth listening to. P.P.S. I suppose I should say 'listen to me!' as well. There's some 2 yr old tracks of mine at www.mp3.com/hew 'Teachers and young automatons, sensuality' is the only one I still like, but other people still like the others. _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Take a look at this site: http://www.discogs.com It doesn't have news but does bring all the labels and artists together. Discogs is totally user-built, so it's kinda like open source software. People can submit little bits of info here and there and over time we'll have a very complete database of artists, labels, and releases. Plus people can post music reviews and comments. Feel free to email me if you have any questions or comments on the site. -- Kevin Lewandowski :: http://www.discogs.com kevin@zinkmedia.com :: http://www.beatseek.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I personally think it's really great that being that most of the labels/artists are computer friendly, they either run or have friends that run for them their own web sites. What other type of music is this true for? Even stuff like indie rock, the artists and labels are rarely computer friendly and an artist site is very rare, and label sites are either rarely informative or rarely up to date. oh yeah which reminds me, I made my new website last night, http://subtr.ac At 11:50 AM 2/1/2001 +0000, you wrote:

Indeed it is great that they all have their own websites, but one nice website done by a load of people covering all the music we might like would be a very useful way for lazy people like me to find new music. I'm not sure if anyone on this list would have heard about this so I must plug it. It's an irish record label that just started up and they put out a compilation CD with some very very nice stuff on it. It can all be heard at: http://www.soundout.net/artists/Front%20End%20Synthetics/FrontEnd.htm Also has anyone heard about Ambulance yet? Very promising Irish act. They had one track on the above compilation and also had a 12" out on ultramack. cheers Hew

Hello, I've not posted to the list for some time now - mainly I've concentrating on running my business, i2 digital media www.i2dm.co.uk . It's occurred to me that I'd like to combine my interests and do an IDM related website. We specialize in community sites and content-management. Maybe a user-contributed review site would be nice, something like www.discogs.com but with opinions on the music. Or I'd be open to any suggestions of a void to be filled in this community. Trouble is, we have to eat and it would be good to have some sort of sponsorship. And the trouble with that is that many of the record labels and artists I'd be interested in approaching are probably doing it more out of love than anything else and may not make a huge amount of money. I was wondering if there is anybody out there who runs a label or makes electronic music who could give me some idea of the feasability of such a plan? We're not (necessarily!) looking to get rich on this, just justify the time spent in allowing ourselves to sit here and look after a website without going out of business! Hope this isn't too spam-like for the list :-) Please reply to me off-list just in case. thanks Ross Ross Balmer ross@i2dm.co.uk i2 digital media www.i2dm.co.uk --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Well, funny you mention this, as I am working on an electronic music website, http://watmm.com or http://wearethemusicmakers.com if you like to type ;O] We have four featured artists, AFX, BoC, Squarepusher and Autechre, but we will also be covering news/releases from the whole electronic music spectrum, not just the four featured artists. More artists will be added as the need arises for more coverage on a particular artist. My plan was to launch Apr 1 (hah) and now I'm shooting for May 1st or soon thereafter. We've got big plans for this site, as there really is no online place for electronic music fans to congregate and the featured artists (especially BoC and Squarepusher) are sorely lacking in online information/discographies. Sorry for the counter-spam, but your post spurred me into announcing it early ;O] Joyrex ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ross Balmer" <ross@tae1.demon.co.uk> To: "idm" <idm@hyperreal.org> Sent: Friday, April 26, 2002 10:47 AM Subject: [idm] idm websites
