Hello mates, I recently have got back into the IDM world have a long journey which is too horrific to describe here...But I need someone's help! Can some of you please e-mail me with artists, titles, labels that produce some of the more funky, post-hop type stuff? I recently discovered Prefuse 73 and he from's near where I live; I love it! Also SOME of the Tigerbeat6 stuff seems to be on that tip, but I don't know which specifics...I got Freakbitchlickfly and love it...Heard about labels like Orthlorng Musork, Schematic, and Chocolate Industries but I'm still in the dark on a lot of it. It doesn't have to have vocals but that's cool too. PLEASE HELP...Can some kind soul please e-mail a primer on stuff along these lines? I would be eternally grateful & it would live me out of the abyss I got myself in! BTW please directly reply to d418@hotmail.com as I have had difficulties with the list in the past. Mmmmmm... Ninja Tune... Mmmmmmmmmmmm Ninja Tune breathes funk. I mean, they have Amon Tobin fer chrissakes! You should, however, look for some reviews, as some Ninja Tune stuff is much too funky for your average IDM-er. You should also look into the [unfortunately] recently defunct Red Snapper, on Warp. For more glitchy stuff, there's the infamous "tried by 12" remixes on chocolate industries, and from there you can look into Push Button Objects, who creates quite a bit of "post hop" stuff. If you're also looking for some post hop with rapping, there's Aesop Rock (who has a track with MF Doom on the Prefuse 73 album) who creates some pretty good stuff, especially his collaborations with Percee P. If you're able to find them, the Tino's Breaks EP's are very yummy and funky :D I'll have to defer to the rest of the list here, though, as I've only seen him live, but are Cex's records pretty funky? His live show sure was. He's on TB6. He's from north of where you live, in Baltimore. You should go play dodgeball with him. derek ------- eggytoast.com ------- snappy one-liner --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Really Prefuse 73 seems to be at the forefront of the explicit link of IDM & Hiphop. Although you could say that alot of mainstream Hiphop producers make idm worthy trax, and by the same token, other idm producers use alot of hiphop style beat structures. Some recommendations i'd make include: Prefuse 73 for sure "Vocal Studies and Uprock Narratives" Warp Rapid Transit Compilation on Chocolate Industries Machine Drum "And Now You Know" Five Deez "Faceless" Counterflow (prefuse73 rmx) Cyne "African Elephants" Rice and Beans These all have a very explicit hip-hop connection (vox and beats). Any number of things on Ninja Tune - although they come from a more funked out perspective than a glitchy perspective in the first place. Of course various things on tons of "IDM" labels takes the same kind of beats and sounds into slightly more experimental, yet still recognizable territory, too many labels to name really. - cutups --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I'm surprised nobody mentioned this yet: Beneath Autumn Sky: "Enki-dus Mono" (Hefty) Expect moody noir-jazz atmospheres mixed with hip-hop meets IDM beats. Tasty. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I'm sure some one has mentioned this already, but you should check out the Ninja Tune label. It has Amon Tobin who is wicked good. Funki Porcini is also on there. Prefuse 73 of course, on Warp. You should also check out Dj Food's Kalaidescope(sp?). --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Not sure who originally posted this.. an upcoming release on Systorm Technologies (www.systorm.com) is a 7" by Nautilis (Planet-Mu).. this release entitled "Fiasco" spans through downbeat funky-electro that is sure to leave a smile on your face.. as the website reads.. "debut systorm release from nautilis. featuring some seriously retro styled tracks with a hyper-catchy pop sensibility. you got hear it to believe it. this is his second release following his killer untitled 7" on Planet-Mu. You can listen to soundclips for the tracks 'Bugout' and 'Muddy Helmets' on the Systorm website as well! (a full review is coming to Safety Manual 002 soon!)... Hmmm. Lotsa folks mentioning Ninja Tune on this... Specific note should go to Wagon Christ, Musipal, out last year. Maybe not *quite* IDM, but funky indeed, and a little rougher around the edges than Amon Tobin (who is, of course, also quite good).
