well.....you could always just buy the CD ;-) definitely agreed though that the aphex twin vinyl packaging was moronic... although at least the wax itself was good quality.

I remember buying the Ninja tune 10yrs of Zen 6LP set for the nice price of 35GBP. It was well worth the deal as (if I remember rightly) it had more than the standard vinyl release and also the CD pack... An excellent package. One of the few times I have preferred Vinyl over CD. The worst I ever did was the original pressing of 'ISDN' by FSOL. This got returned for an exchange straight away, cause the pressing was very quiet and noisy. Now I am not so sure, because the 2nd and 3rd times I tried it was the same result. By the time I was desparate enough to buy the CD, the tracks had changed... I'm not trying to prove a point for or against either format, but I think it's a case of careful, informed decisions. I just don't fall for gimmicks anymore, irregardless of format. And 5-6 LP's for an album of music is sheer stupidity. Keeps those presses busy, I suppose... ----- Original Message ----- From: "M Mercer" <vletrmx@hotmail.com> To: <idm@hyperreal.org> Sent: Monday, February 18, 2002 9:57 PM Subject: Re: [idm] geogaddi, and absurd packaging in general

Some packaging definitely works out better than others. But there's different criteria to judge by - quality of the vinyl/pressing, quality of the package/sleeves, and artistic value of the whole thing. I've got a few artistic packages that are pretty cool - some EPs on Hands with textured jackets very nice all around. Cex's Role-Playah EP is very funny packaging, although it could use another sleeve for protecting the record. The Aphex "Druqz" packaging was very irratating. The image on the LP is nice and all, but the shape of the box was useless. It would have been just as well to make it a regular, "thicker" LP package with the same image, because the jackets inside an vinyl are all great quality. Overall - i just like to see a package that will decently protect the vinyl. Cover art is good. That's pretty much all i'm looking for. Creativity in packaging is ok, but in the long run i could care less. - cutups ----- Original Message ----- From: "Rich" <arkive@btopenworld.com> To: "idm" <idm@hyperreal.org> Sent: Monday, February 18, 2002 5:00 PM Subject: Re: [idm] absurd packaging in general
