Scary World Theory - Lali Puna ( just lovely...post something-or-other which carries the Morr touches) (not new, but..) A Collection of Ice Cream Vans V. 2 - Tele:funken (aka Flying Saucer Attack - quirky, off kilter, catchy anti-pop with electronic tweaks) Love Family Trax (Ricardo Villalobos mix) (is it tech house, is it micro house...whatever. Nice romp and not to be confused with what passes for "progressive") (not new either) Tilt - Scott Walker (dark, melancholy crooning - out of time) Antirapitolism - compiled by DJ Bo!ne (raya) (raya does rap - nicely) (quite old) Fourth Drawer Down - The Associates (classic 80s stuff from their dissonant phase. Beautiful) 808 Utd. State 90 (another classic from 89-90) The Fusion Mixes - Fauna Flash (jazzy, downtempo-ish, lush and groove laden) Parsec - Dron (one of the many fine elektrolux releases) Fyuti - Bola ...not an Ae in the bunch. jeff At 09:17 PM 2/6/2002, you wrote:

I'm currently in love with the Hefty Records sampler that came free with the Wire a month ago. It's my first exposure to Telefon Tel Aviv, whom I've read so much about here on IDM, it's got an amazing track by Beneath Autumn Sky whom I've never heard of and would love to know more about, and as a whole this label sampler has a cohesive flow about it (which is not evident with the rather random picks in the WireTapper freebies that choose tracks from a wide base). Certainly Hefty Records deserve to be investigated! The only release of their I have is Savath & Savalas - which is also highly recommended, though no longer "fresh". IDM shelf-life is so short ;-) I * --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

i've just discovered a guy called matthew florianz. he, along with his similarly talented associates, creates wonderful ambient soundscapes. his latest works have been a 3cdr set called "openstage" [with ivo selder and input from others] that was recorded outdoors and "molenstraat" [with eric t'sas] that was recorded live in an apartment between dusk and dawn. along with that goes hs recordings of birmingham england, who release florianz' work and more of the same. just a small independant label but one that is putting out quality material. matthew florianz - www.liquidmorphine.com hs recordings - www.hsrecordings.co.uk -paul --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Heh, yeah, it's been bugging me. There's so much enjoyable older music that it seems a real shame for the desire for something new to automatically equal the desire for something just released, rather than just for something I haven't heard yet. Especially when an older release is something from maybe '98 or whenever, it just seems ridiculous to me to apply arbitrary limits to what you're interested in checking out. The only excuse I can think of is if you're the worst kind of production nerd. Some examples: The first Slicker album 'Confidence in Duber' (on Hefty, no less!) is great fun. It seems to have more of a context now. Which is a fancy way of saying I've heard more stuff like it since I first got it, and that makes it a bit easier to digest. Also, I can never give enough praise to Harmonia's 'Musik von...' which just rocks my world. From '74, and a great listen for people into more recent German minimalism, bands like Seefeel, whatever.. dreamy, mesmerising. Pretty Boy Crossover released 'The Building and Formation' relatively recently, but that's mainly stuff from '98 and '99. I'm really enjoying that as well, and interviewed them for igloomag.com ... check that out shortly and hopefully it'll be up there. If anyone likes the idea of 70s soul stuff with some psychedelic and folk references, I hope you've checked out the Shuggie Otis reissue on Luaka Bop. That was my definite favourite discovery of 2001, although again it's from the 70s. Sorta covers what's nice about someone like Nick Drake and someone like, I dunno, maybe Al Green or Bill Withers when they're on form. Then there's these crazy organ instrumentals in there that are like Stereolab or something... Ok, enough rambling. There's Succour on Warp (1995) but the etherial floaty sound you describe would fit "Pure/Impure" on the Too Pure label, featuring two tracks mixed by AFX (Fast mix and slow mix of Time to Find Me). Mark Clifford then went on as Disjecta, but that entirely different i feel. Oh hells yeah! I've been listening to the Gez Varley for months now and I still love it. The Dub Taylor album is awesome (especially "Sweet Lips") and it redeemed Force Tracks after that lackluster Crane A.K. disc. Other than those two, I've been listening to: Something J.- Mercedes Bentley vs. Armani Versace YMC- Essentials RZA as Bobby Digital- Digital Bullet Wu-Tang Clan- Iron Flag -djgyn, forever ===== ======= "GASR" -(Accession recording artists)- << http://gasr.net >> (updated November 2001) << http://www.accession-records.de >> __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
