While I dislike his quote, I must disagree with your opinion that Max Tundra's music is boring, derivative, and uncreative. The only release of his that I know of that has tDR artwork is his "Children At Play" 2-tracker on Warp. They're long tracks, but it's only two tracks, and they're from 3 or 4 years ago. Not quite enough to judge an artist by. He's had an album and a couple of singles/eps out since, and I think they are extremely creative and original - light years beyond the children at play ep. The album, Some Best Friend You Turned Out To Be, is wildy diverse and inventive, and is one of my favorites. I think it's one of the top albums for its year, which I think was 2000... He may be missing what's good about BoC, but that's his loss, not anybody else's. ===== .Adam http://www.damek.org/ __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Its really funny that everyone's so down on Mr. Tundra, I was just thinking this week that I should recommend his record. I think he does pretty amazing stuff and definitely has a sound of his own. I usually don't pay too much attention to what people say in interviews anyway, he might have been really nervous, you never know really. Plus, he did do a cover of Tell it to my heart by taylor dane, can't knock that. And since we're on the BOC topic somewhat, I was at a party recently and someone was playing "the age of aquarius" from the hair soundtrack and at first all I could think was "orange", I never knew that they sampled that, I guess is explains the title. PS> Mr Reading, was that you I saw at the PS1 geek out on Saturday, I wasn't sure. ~adesh http://www.recordcamp.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I've heard nearly all of Max Tundra's work, and most of boc's and I must say that I think Max Tundra runs circles around boc. (is "runs circles" a term proper for the discussion of electronic music?) I've seen quite a few boc posts on this list, but that "Max Tundra...enemies" was the first Max Tundra post, I think. It seems as though boc do not come close to anything I understand to be the definitive and appealing characteristics of idm. I'm not trying to start a debate over who is more idm or more engaging, just why certain ordinary sounding composers get a tremendous amount of press while it takes others to say something seemingly shocking in an interview to get a post. I suppose boc's new album coming up helps them in that respect, but I still notice this. A few words about Max Tundra. He grew on me from something I thought of as a bad 4-track recording into some of the most unique textures layered as though he made it for a three ring circus - "Some Best Friend You Turned Out to Be" His music is just flat out fun. Kind of like the band Ween's Pure Guava album, their Electra debut...how can you argue with something to goddamn wicked? His track on freakbitchlickfly has some amazingly crisp sound to it, as well as the worst synth piano I have ever heard, the dynamics of which deliberately set to clip out during the accompaniment. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? These kind of subtle antics make me just eat his words about boc up. So seriously, what is it about boards of canada? Honestly, I think I am approaching them the wrong way, because a LOT of my friends and the members of this list seem to love them. Any thoughts or recommendations on what to look for? ...and who is this band aphex twin I keep seeing everywh-, kidding... gvp __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? i've heard only the max's warp release and i liked it. i wanted to hear more until i heard one of his videos (i think it was on VIVA or MTV) and it really didn't impress me so i kinda lost interest in his music. and, come on people?! is't the "hi scores EP" a real classic... you cannot NOT like it ;-) i agree that they've become, maybe too popular, coz they released only one album really... (two if you consider "twoism" but it's really rare...) anyway...i love thier music. let's just wait for "geogaddi" and see what happens :-) np: Dope for the Robot - Metamatics --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

unless he's done more than one video, it was probably the video for "ink me", which is one of the more boring tracks off "some best friend you turned out to be" - really, this album is tops. shame nobody seems to care, really. and for the record, i like boards of canada too. can't we all just get along? :P -adam --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
