i'm not too hot on the Owls album, or Joan of Arc, but CAP N' JAZZ still stands as some of the most beautifully raw and honest music i've ever heard. to those unfamiliar this is not IDM. it is a guitar band out of DC area (right?) that did some shotty recordings back in the day which eventually got released as a double disc. it's like free jazz with pop sensibility. the songs arc and crash majestically. the singer strains and pushes his voice beyond breaking and hovers there in breathless wonder... of highest recommendation (take that OtherMusic! ha!). it breaks my heart everytime i listen to it. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Yea, Cap'n Jazz is awesome. They're the same members as the Owls except for one person (they also share members with Joan of Arc, American Football, etc)... Their re-issue on Jade Tree is amazing. They're from Wheeling, a suburb of Chicago, BTW. They recorded that in high school. They're all still around Chicago as "The Owls." -- :: atomly :: [ atomly@atomly.com : www.atomly.com ... speaking of whom, if anyone thinks Schematic et al are victims of the wanky vector flash website disease, Jade Tree have the benchmark terminal case.... the most IDM site of a non-IDM label by far... anyway, i'll get back to shutting up... - jeremy --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I agree...but, The Owls album (from Mike Kinsella of Cap'N jazz/American Football) that came out this year is just wow wow good. Definitely the best of the year to me. Mostly delicate guitar work with mellow vocals, but some nice electronic sensibilities to it too. Highly recommended! At 02:20 PM 12/10/2001 -0500, you wrote:

Yea, it's amazing... Except the lyrics. Heh. Very good, nonetheless. -- :: atomly :: [ atomly@atomly.com : www.atomly.com ...
