Haa haa.....its part-and parcel of the times.... I always think I am going to go to a set and chill, but does that ever happen.....nah....and who's fault is it? MINE I know what I want, and now I am seeking to create the type of venue I want......Now get this.....Smooth styled House-Techno and electro in a semi-professional atmosphere, with nice subtle lighting, art-deco trimmings......SMOKING is ALLOWED.........Coffee, no alcohol, no American flags....:D.......and people(of different races) having intellectual conversations, networking, or just mingling....while the music spins! Coming soon to a theatre not close to you! -----Original Message----- From: Reading, John [mailto:jreading@proxicom.com] Sent: Tuesday, November 06, 2001 10:45 AM To: idm@hyperreal.org Subject: [idm] Good shows in NYC (rant) rant/ So the other day I went to see DJ Spooky at a huge warehouse in DUMBO the other day. I was thinking that it would be a good opportunity to see spooky do some interesting cutups and such and I could just chill and take in (what is left of) the Manhattan skyline. Why the fuck must every show I go to be a fucking drug-fueled, athletic freak out event. Am I an old man for wanting to just listen to good music when I go to a show? I'm getting really tired of the same old muddied, verbed out acoustics and visor wearing monkeys with glowsticks. Even the Warp party at the Frying pan was the same way. damn... Now I got nothing wrong with getting a good freak on, but are there any parties with decent sound and people who are actually there to listen and the performer is actually there to perform, not just provide a trampoline for the eTards to jump up and down on? I'd love to sit in a theatre and listen to a great act and sip a pint where I don't have to pay ticketmaster. Is that too much to ask? come on New York. /end rant --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

You've summed it up right there. It's economics baby. Want to make a decent buck from putting on a show, and you're gonna have to sell tickets. If the 'listeners only crowd' (of which I am usually a member) can't fill the place, by all means get some people who prefer to move in there. Your only options if you want some dance free space is to convince a promoter there are enough people who just want to listen to support acts, or to become a promoter yourself and start setting stuff up.

Thank Helix, I am thinking....coupled with a little poetry and some other readings and time for people to express their ideas in an artistic fashion, I am hoping that I can fill the place up with the "right" type of people.... I am about to get back out in the city and get a little more pub....so that this can happen..... I am starting to find that deeper under the cover of all this good music is a fucking Madhouse of crooks and irresponsible arse-holes! Tis a bloody shame!...and its the only thing I can do to change things, i.e., do it myself......or shut the fuck up(and the later wont happen soooooooo) -----Original Message----- From: Helix Tradesman [mailto:paelon@hotmail.com] Sent: Tuesday, November 06, 2001 12:40 PM To: idm@hyperreal.org Subject: RE: [idm] Good shows (rant) You've summed it up right there.
