no, for a long time (and still most of the time), that's been the case for me too! i've pointed it out to several people. it's pretty odd...i'm not sure how to approach the numerical analysis...i wonder what the selection effect is, or how much of it is that for a short while there was a statistically improbable trend of 7s and then you just notice more after that... (you know, how people only remember the things that nostradamus predicted that came true, and not all the things that didn't...) -rachel (aka dj pie) ps. but i still plan to do a set of all track 7s and see if anyone notices... -- "time can but make it easier to be wise / though now it seems impossible, and so / all that you need is patience." --yeats --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Okay I tested the track 7 theory on a random grabbing of cds, and heres the results; Braindance comp: Track 7:the railway raver- pretty unremarkable track, arguabley one of the least interesting on the disk. Animals on Wheels:Designs and mistakes: track seven is pretty unremarkable, relative to the rest of the album D'arcangelo-shipwreck: track seven is pretty good on this one, but also I like most of this album. Ovuca:Wasted Sunday: tr.7 is pretty good, but by no means blowing my mind. Matmos:a chance to cut: tr 7 is also the last track on this one, so there could be a whole theory based around the last track, but this one is good, but I think track 3 or 4 is the standout on that album. U-ziq:tang n vectif: Track 7 is pretty good, wierd dr who ish sort of track. Two lone swordsmen:Tiny reminders: track 7 wierd atmospheric pretty unremarkable go nowhere track Venetian Snares:Songs about cats: track 7 is pretty good, I dunno about the best on the album.. We: Decentertainment: Total filler track, I think I forgot about this one. Okay, I dont think I had any groundbreaking findings based on this research. Maybe its one of those things that the more you pay attention to it the more it pops up. Like I was reading Cosmic Trigger by Robert anton Wilson and he has this whole thing, him and Burroughs about the number 23 and syncronicities around it. And then the more they noticed it, the more it kept popping up. And thinking nothing of it I went to denver to see plaid, and in the midst of watching the visuals projected, out pops a schoolbus, bus number 23! --- rachel@velvetpants.com wrote:

I decided to test this track 7 theory myself, for fun, on entirely random CD selections. Artist: Biosphere Album: SubStrata Track 7: "Kobresia" Certainly works here. My favorite track on this incredible album. Artist: Orbital Album: Orbital 2 (the brown album) Track 7: "Walk Now" Definitely a decent track, to be sure, but doesn't really come close to the epic "Halcton + On + On" or the various "Lush" interpretations. Artist: Autechre Album: LP5 Track 7: "Under BOAC" I'll probably start another Ae flame war with this, but I find this track wholly annoying. Doesn't touch the track following it, "corc," for unrivaled beauty. Artist: Various Album: Vibon compilation Track 7: "Cootchie" by Flowchart Oh, Hell no. The standout here is definitely track 9, "Strung Out" by Spintronic; melodic, SAW1 style beaty goodness. Artist: Global Communication Album: Pentamerous Metamorphosis Track 7: n/a Well, what the Hell do I do here? Go find a copy of "Blood Music" and try to guess which of the phases is an interpretation of "On the Way to Fly?" Artist: Kid Spatula Album: Spatula Freak Track 7: "Get Up T" No, sir, nothing touches "Cough" (track 5). Artist: Exterior Mirror Album: Hupp Track 7: "Coolant" Definitely, definitely. This is one of the better post SAW2 textural albums I've heard, and "Coolant" is the climax. Artist: Scorn Album: Logghi Barogghi Track 7: "Logghi Barogghi" No arguement that it's certainly the title track. Decently composed, but way to short to be a standout. Check "Out Of" (track 5) instead for menacing clip-hop ("clip" as in "distorted to fuck"). Artist: Squarepusher Album: Hard Normal Daddy Track 7: "E8 Boogie" Lots of jazzy fun here, but certainly not the one that makes me sit up and go "whoa, shit." That honor falls to track 2: "Beep Street" Artist: The Orb Album: The Orb's Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld (original US single-CD version) Track 7: "Star 6 & 7 8 9" Are you kidding? This is the one track I *don't* like off of this! "Outlands" (track 6) and "Earth (Gaia)" (track 2) wipe the floor with it. So, out of ten discs: 2 positive votes, 7 negative votes, and one inapplicable. I discovered as many positive votes for tracks 2, 5 and 9 globally. One might note that the selection sample is pathetically small for any statistical analysis; one might just as well note that 2 plus 5 and 9 minus 2 both equal 7. Like I said, it's all just for fun. m@2zo www.thechisa.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

any number that you focus on enough will pop up every so often strictly because all objects can be quantified. they're always there, it's just that it seems remarkable when you make something of it. one number that i notice frequently is 33, it's used often as a literary device (it's the age at which jesus alledgedly died), and it's also 1/3 of 100, which is an amount that seems to come up a lot... numbers are funny. gregory __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? i'm on the same page. i find also, that 105.9FM is ALWAYS the best radio station... i'm also most comfortable at 10:59 (pm or am), in addition to being $1,059 dollars in debt. gregory __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
