I decided to test this track 7 theory myself, for fun, on entirely random CD selections. Artist: Biosphere Album: SubStrata Track 7: "Kobresia" Certainly works here. My favorite track on this incredible album. Artist: Orbital Album: Orbital 2 (the brown album) Track 7: "Walk Now" Definitely a decent track, to be sure, but doesn't really come close to the epic "Halcton + On + On" or the various "Lush" interpretations. Artist: Autechre Album: LP5 Track 7: "Under BOAC" I'll probably start another Ae flame war with this, but I find this track wholly annoying. Doesn't touch the track following it, "corc," for unrivaled beauty. Artist: Various Album: Vibon compilation Track 7: "Cootchie" by Flowchart Oh, Hell no. The standout here is definitely track 9, "Strung Out" by Spintronic; melodic, SAW1 style beaty goodness. Artist: Global Communication Album: Pentamerous Metamorphosis Track 7: n/a Well, what the Hell do I do here? Go find a copy of "Blood Music" and try to guess which of the phases is an interpretation of "On the Way to Fly?" Artist: Kid Spatula Album: Spatula Freak Track 7: "Get Up T" No, sir, nothing touches "Cough" (track 5). Artist: Exterior Mirror Album: Hupp Track 7: "Coolant" Definitely, definitely. This is one of the better post SAW2 textural albums I've heard, and "Coolant" is the climax. Artist: Scorn Album: Logghi Barogghi Track 7: "Logghi Barogghi" No arguement that it's certainly the title track. Decently composed, but way to short to be a standout. Check "Out Of" (track 5) instead for menacing clip-hop ("clip" as in "distorted to fuck"). Artist: Squarepusher Album: Hard Normal Daddy Track 7: "E8 Boogie" Lots of jazzy fun here, but certainly not the one that makes me sit up and go "whoa, shit." That honor falls to track 2: "Beep Street" Artist: The Orb Album: The Orb's Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld (original US single-CD version) Track 7: "Star 6 & 7 8 9" Are you kidding? This is the one track I *don't* like off of this! "Outlands" (track 6) and "Earth (Gaia)" (track 2) wipe the floor with it. So, out of ten discs: 2 positive votes, 7 negative votes, and one inapplicable. I discovered as many positive votes for tracks 2, 5 and 9 globally. One might note that the selection sample is pathetically small for any statistical analysis; one might just as well note that 2 plus 5 and 9 minus 2 both equal 7. Like I said, it's all just for fun. m@2zo www.thechisa.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
