This is a really refreshing album, I'm surprised I haven't heard more talk about it. There are several very poppy vocal tracks on it that caught my off guard that are great Also, the cover art is superb. Highly recommended. Oh and on the vocal-electronic tip, I'm going to have to mention Notwist-Shrink yet again....trust me on this one, it's been out for 2 years and I've yet to hear anything like it.... --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Check out http://www.notwist.com They album's name is Shrink, but the band is called Notwist...it's 4 guys. Members are almost in Console, Tied & Tickled Trio, and Village of Savoogna. You'll find audio-streams of tracks from the Shrink album at the website--I'd recommend listening to "Chemicals" to get a good idea. I suppose it's a band with electronic elements rather than an electronic act....but either way it's unlike anything else out there that I've heard... Oh, also I believe Funkstorung did a remix of a Notwist track.....I have been unable to get my hands on that single but I believe it's going to be on Additional Productions volume 2.....

there has been a few comments here and there about this album. It's great. It usually doesnt take me too long to get sick of a new album, but this one is still one of the top on my list,(along with Sutekh, Twerk and Monolake). And who knew he could sing and pull it off so well...

while i do enjoy this album, the vocals actually irk me, to the point of making me cringe and feel sorry for safety scissors when he sings. they almost ruin the record for me and make me want to turn it off when they start. the lyrics are often "the rhyme is going to be so obvious that i can guess what he's going to say a measure before he does," and i just HATE that. i got over that when i got over "i'm so poetic" jewel. i'm in no way anti-vocal, i'm just anti-vocal-for-the-sake-of-having-vocals. still a good record, though... -j --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Hahaha, that's the reaction I had to Supercollider. Where you really want to like it, but you are kind of embarassed by it. Yet somehow I was strangely drawn to it and forced to listen to it over and over again by some invisible forces. And now I think its great. And then when Parts Water came out, the vocals seemed great... it didnt seem like vocals for the sake of having vocals... it seemed like it was a refreshing break from the almost pretentious nature of minimal techno. Not to say that I dont absolutely love minimal techno... but sometimes it just seems...cold and calculating or something. The vocals added some warmth to it.

I dunno, I was actually a bit dissappointed with it. The 12" on Force Inc., "Grounds for Foreground" is one of my favourite recent releases. It's just perfect in every respect. In comparison, "Parts Water" is pretty weak. And I don't really rate his lyrics, I prefer the purely instrumental tracks. Just my opinion. -nj --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
