Alright alright... I can't believe my post caused so much shit. It's impossible to have a real debate with text messages spurted back and forth. I'm really sorry if I offended anyone, but I don't really see how I could have. I may be ignorant for thinking 'rap' is a black thing and 'country' is a white thing, but is that such a crazy thought? On average, I think most people would agree. Christ, I grew up listening to Ice T, Black Sheep, Easy E, etc. etc. and my comments were that TODAY'S rap... I repeat... TODAY'S rap is absolute crap in comparison. Hip-hop I find to be slightly different in that it focuses more on the music and melodies than lyrics and singing (i.e. talking/shouting). I know it may be considered "mainstream" but Leftfield's latest album would be considered a mixture of hip-hop and techno, no? I enjoyed it a LOT, and still do, so I don't HATE hiphop, it's just that rap is always associated with gangsters and drugs on television which is the only time I'm exposed to it. Take it how you will, but come ON! There has to be something more interesting/important to discuss on this list :) - Dan J.

yeah, on the whole, you're right. My girlfriend picked up a cd from some british troupe, kind of fatboy slimmish, called "the wiseguys." She, of course, listened to it on the way home after finding this, and I said "I never knew you were into hip-hop" (since some of the songs were very hip-hoppy, and one even sampled A Tribe Called Quest). She said "this isn't hip hop." I said "oh yes it is, just listen to that beat, and the scratching." She said "hip hop is about pimps and hoes." Indeed! We had the same conversation in 5 minutes that the entire list spent 2 days on. Sheesh! Most people don't give a rat's ass about music. We're "intelligent dance music" because we give a rat's ass about music. We erupt in arguments like this because talking about music you give a rat's ass about in an ignorant way to people who give a rat's ass about it and think about it is bound to cause controversy. It's like going to a pro-lifer and saying "it's just a baby, who cares" cheers, /derek ------- eggytoast.com ------- now on the interweb --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
