this record is quite nice a lot of the time and sometimes it fails to move me. It's supercomplex jittery drum'n'bass with a hard edge, but not as noisey or hardcore-gabber sounding as other vsnares records. some great melodies.... especially the last third of "poor kakarookee" some of the tie-ins to the title are a bit cheesy i think, the meowing in one track and the "i am the cat" song kinda blow. And I love cats, so i think the title is great, but some of the 'meow meow' parts don't do it for me. recommended, but not enough to say that the $18 import price is really worth it... try before you buy i guess. A little disappointing since i've been following VSnares for years, but i suspect he'll soon drop a record that blows my mind completely. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? i think this record was a attempt for mr. snares to play with the idm edge. and yes, it doesn't have the tunes other records do, it is not as violent as "orange things...", not as funky..., and some of the stuff is downright annoying (meow, meow...). i can never tell whether he's being goofy like venetian snares + speedranch, or whether he is serious. but i guess i view it as a creative playground, and strangely enough after 4,5 listen once u get all the annoying stuff blocked out, it does grow on you. the stuff is complex, and if nothing else, it gives you a lot of cool, cool sounds, noises. i wish it was heavier, since the best parts on the cd are the heavier ones. i probably would not recommend it as definitive vsnares work, but it would be nice to pick up if you liked the description. -- =anton= http://www.nezzwerk.com/seven --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
