Does anyone here have any opinions on the Sandspider album out on Worm Interface? I love the label, but the description on the site doesn't seem that exciting to me, and as they don't have any samples up (yet?), I can't find out for myself. I guess I'm just wondering if I'm missing something new and amazing or if it's just more in line with some of the less interesting ambient stuff they've released... and what about the Fun Tourist 7"? --------------------------------------------------- Get free personalized email at http://www.iname.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

i personally haven't heard the album (still waiting for it to arrive) but sandspider had two tracks on last year's 'volume transmission' compilation that i thought were quite good. the two songs were nothing quite advanced or such, but had a rather pleasant feel to them. repeating drum/chime throughout both of them, focusing sort of on a drone-esque feel. rather simple melodies (if you could call them that). overall, it sounded like gentle pseudo-ambient stuff, but not akin to the 'ambient' type of music they put out such as plasmalamp. basically, if you liked volume transmission, i'd recommend this. i think the same two tracks are on that album, but i'm not sure. that probably doesn't help at all...

i've had the album a few weeks, and i like it quite a bit, although it's not super exciting. it's not 'challenging' to listen to, but it has some nice melodies and there's a fair amount of variety from track to track. i wouldn't classify it as ambient, really. it's been in my car cd changer for a week or so along with 'are you that retail snob' by aspen, and tim tetlow's 'beauty walks a razor's edge.' all very nice. i'd recommend all of them. for reference, i like all of the following a lot, in pretty much all of their various incarnations: bola, autechre, plaid, monomorph, boards of canada, aphex twin... -rachel --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
