he's a guy with a fair amount of traditional music skills, and probably plays keyboard well enough to play most of it in real time. probably it's recorded live in bits and pieces, and then edited. it doesn't sound step recorded to me, for the most part. whereas that Flanger album i just got (forget the title, it's the one where they cover Miles Davis' "So What")...those jazz keyboards really sound like someone who can't play jazz piano using MIDI to build something that approximates the effect. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I read somewhere that most of 'Feed me Weird Things' was sequenced with a Boss Dr-660 (drum machine) triggering an S1000 and other bits. Of course, I also read somewhere that if you count to 20 while closing your eyes and imagining that you are a bowling ball you can empower your feet with the gift of speech. So maybe the Squarepusher info I read was false. At least that's what my feet told me. Either way, in the end all that's important is that Squarepusher makes lots of us really happy. I'd imagine that SOME of Squarepusher's music is sequenced, but at the same time, I can pretty much guarantee that his live bass is indeed just that. On the other hand, I've never seen a person play a 303 like a keyboard. =) -- andrij. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

But if anyone ever would, it'd probably be tom jenkinson. I remember reading something around the time of Budakhan Mindphone coming out that he was using some sort of midi controller with his bass to play some of the stuff on the album. I always sort of figured it to be those 303'ish lines on Fly Street and Varkatope that were actually being played on a midi-driving bass. -Aaron On the other hand, I've never seen a person play
