I don't know of any sites with sound samples off-hand. But yes, I will be playing some Manitoba material on feedback monitor tonight, and Dan Snaith (the guy who is Manitoba) will be in the studio for a chat. Manitoba, for those who don't know, is a Leaf recording artist who released an outstanding 12" EP late last year, and who has another 12" out this week with an album to fallow in March. Highly recommended stuff. Tune into CIUT 89.5 FM tonight at 10 PM Eastern if you're in Toronto and area, or via RealAudio at http://www.virtuecast.com/radio/ciut/ if you live elsewhere. Man oh man (or maybe that's "Man oh man-itoba")... Just got a copy of the forthcoming Manitoba CD on Leaf, and boy is it good. One of the better things I've heard in some time. Imagine the poignance of Boards of Canada, the child-like qualities of Nobukazu Takemura and Sack & Blumm, throw in some po-faced drum machine work on some tracks, some splicey-dicey breaks on others, and on the phenomenal "Paul's Birthday" (available now, or soon, as a single), set it all to a killer UK garage beat. Gorgeous and nuanced and following its own odd path - very much a rarity. Thanks to Dave Segal for turning me on to this one! I'd like to express my extreme excitement about the new Manitoba album (even if it came out a little while ago). I just got my copy of the CD yesterday, and have been bouncing about my home in bliss listening to fantastic new sound combinations that delight my senses. Very nice laid-back music that carries smooth melodies, glitchy drums on Dundas, Ontario that actually enhance the track, not just glitch it up. A well rounded release that lived up to my expectations. Woo! Not sure exactly, but if i were to guess, its because Winnipeg, Manitoba is a test market for MacDonald's products. Yeah, we got the McRib before any of y'all. Woo. Heh, while I like the idea, I'd like to defend Winnipeg's culinary status and suggest that perhaps the golden arches (or the big yellow 'M') are there to imply the first letter in "Manitoba". ... and thankfully, Winnipeg was never graced with the deliciously titled "McCrab", unlike some eastern parts of the U.S. Your friend in justice, Mayor McCheese On Sat, 28 Apr 2001, Vector Audax wrote:

Just wondering about Manitoba. "Start Breaking my Heart" is pretty excellent and one of the few albums I keep returning to. Anybody know if he will be releasing anything soon? Does he record under other aliases by any chance? Thanks in advance.
