Man oh man (or maybe that's "Man oh man-itoba")... Just got a copy of the
forthcoming Manitoba CD on Leaf, and boy is it good. One of the better
things I've heard in some time. Imagine the poignance of Boards of Canada,
the child-like qualities of Nobukazu Takemura and Sack & Blumm, throw in
some po-faced drum machine work on some tracks, some splicey-dicey breaks on
others, and on the phenomenal "Paul's Birthday" (available now, or soon, as
a single), set it all to a killer UK garage beat. Gorgeous and nuanced and
following its own odd path - very much a rarity.
Thanks to Dave Segal for turning me on to this one!
Phil
