ooo, ooo and another thing... What about all those posts asking "Hey, what's going on in this city on this date?" Well, tune in to some of these radio shows while you're in that city and call the host or just listen to what the host has to say. And think about this... What if you've got a friend in Los Angeles but isn't on the IDM list and therefore doesn't see my playlists and might not know about my show. Then perhaps you, upon seeing my playlists, could inform that friend of my show. since I'm one of the offenders, I'll say.... yes. Self promotion is the point. Because when I do a show that is completely webcast (i.e. no real FM band presence), I like to publicize the broadcasts to my target audience, which is IDM fans on the web. I think this list qualifies under those criteria, and it's a lot easier than typing in 50 email addresses just to not have it go to the few people it really seems to bother. After all, who wants to DJ to no one? I additionally enjoy reading other set lists. It informs me of when new things are out, if there is a release I missed, etc.... and when I listen to some webcast shows, I don't have time to sit and keep track of what I'm hearing, but I can refer to a list that's posted here to learn more. Because, as anyone on this list knows, informational posts about the _music_ are few and far between. Maybe if there were more interesting posts about music and artists other than whether Aphex Twin made an .mp3 or not, I wouldn't have to resort to playlists as one of my primary sources of info on this list. If you don't want to read playlists, then just delete the posts or filter your mail. God knows I delete about 50% of the threads since they're usually about "is ______ IDM?" or "how do you pronounce Autechre?" This may come off as attitude more than a constructive reply, but realistically, trying to cater to everyone's tastes on this list is an impossibility. Once again, the digest does not let you delete individual messages. All you can do is scroll through once you see there is a message you don't want to read. You may think this is trivial, but scrolling through 5 pages of playlists a day is rather annoying. Especially since the digest message seperator: -------------------- Is used (to a degree) in many posts. The digest is a horrible mess to look at, but it is still a more desirable option than getting each post as an individual message. Nobody has really addressed the problem with posting a link to a webpage which contains for sale and playlist stuff. They've merely said "delete the extra posts you whiner". Well deleting the extra posts doesn't work well for digest members, which this guy clearly states he is. i can't imagine an e-mail that missed the point more. thanks for following my statement that "[the digest] is still a more desirable option than getting each post as an individual message" with the fantastic insight "[t]hen don't use the digest. Set up another email account just for IDM or other newsgroups." i'm presuming you're implying that after i do that i will be fine using the non-digest version of this list. i do in fact use this account _only_ for mailing lists, and i'm certain that switching from digest would only increase the frustration i feel reading this list most times. is there any way you could answer the question though: what is the problem with posting a url that referrences a playlist or for sale list? why is this such a big problem, or any problem for that matter? yeah, damn it's annoying that you don't like 60% of the conversations that go on here. but guess what? i'm not responsible for those posts (aside from the one you're replying to obviously). there aren't many people who post playlists, and their list output is quite large compared to other list members. each of us can only positively affect the output of this list by increasing the quality of what they submit, and i would hope that some of us have at least a small interest in not pissing other list members off. especially since it's not hard to do. cheers
