im trying to figure out if the new +one album 'bare necessities' on defocus is an alias of plaid or a true collaboration, as the info on the cd claims. the sleeve reads "written by +one, produced by plaid" but provides no other relevant info. with an entirely electronic album, is there a difference between writing and producing? the music itself strongly resembles something plaid would make on their own, tho there is a lightness and sweetness that seems new to their sound and could certainly be the influence of another artist. any insight appreciated. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

plus, if you'll notice their new record sounds rather "plaid-y"; ed and andy produced it, I heard. ian / delph0r --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

If I recall, the story with Plaid "producing" the album is that +One is actually friends with Plaid, have a studio in the same location (or share a studio) and therefore received production assitance from Plaid. The album is indeed solely by +One. this is only from memory though because this question was posted and answered to the list a couple months ago... shimone http://www.staticbeats.com ----- Original Message ----- From: Ian Pojman <ipojman@jmlafferty.com> To: <idm@hyperreal.org> Sent: Tuesday, January 23, 2001 11:03 AM Subject: Re: [idm] +one = plaid?

Yeah, it was actually roughly 3 weeks ago, with the subject line "+One", so it confuses me why this has already come up again. The details from the last time round, courtesy label mate Simon Walley (CiM):

Someone else wrote that Shaun's surname is Spencer. Michael np. Yip, t'was me. I take full responsibility for starting this thread on 5 January (check archives for reference). Anyway, the same terrain has been covered here again in the last two days, with nothing new being added. I still hold that this is an album that should be heard by all the IDM community. Go!!
