Oh boy, from the replies I recieved, I think that I didn't express myself properly. I am not selling a CD burner. I bought one at this great prce andthought I would pass along the info. So here is some info. Pardon the intrusion to the others who aren't interested - the many replies warrant this mass e-mail. Its a Panasonic CW-7585-b 8x/4x/32x w 2mb buffer. It works nicely and had no problems with compatibility. Its the best deal into terms of price v. quality v compatibility. Any lower and its a no-name all the way and compatibility problems arise (hard-to-find drivers, firmware issues, etc.). Higher and you are paying more for who-knows-what. I bought mine at allstarshop.com. I am in no way affiliated with these guys. I just used pricewatch.com to find the best deal on this model, and then cross-checked the vendor with Bizrate and Resellerratings. These guys were the only highly-rated people selling at this price. The others had horror stories written about them with unreturned calls to customer service, switched components, etc. So there you are. Maybe I should work out some sort of kickback for all these referrals! :) --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

My recommnendation would be get a Plextor CDRW. Their 8x and 12x models are both excellent and for consumer grade they make the best CD writers out there in terms of compatibility, timely firmware upgrades, and reliability. There also also other brands which sell Plextor drives with their name on it. For example the Iomega 12x10x32x drive is a Plextor drive and was on sale at CompUSA a few days ago for $99 after $30 rebate. Plextors do an incredible job of ripping audio with no errors too. Many lesser brand give you pops and static. You get what you pay for with a Plextor and when they are sale you can pick them up for a steal of a price as with the Iomega/Plextor 12x for $99. Wait for sales and use online merchant coupons and you'll get a good deal on one. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

You are right. Plextor's are indeed good - they are also on the list of "worth having" as seen in the Cd-R FAQ by Andy McFadden. That is indeed an excellent deal. Also, I wouldn't recommend ripping audio or using a CDRW/CDR drive for normal usage. You are inflicting wear and tear on the precious drive. Get an Afreey drive which can rip flawless audio at 26x (clocked) - only 30$ Afreey makes one of the only lowcost drives that does high-speed DAE. Some webistes to help in your search for a CD-R drive and/or DAE capable CD-Rom: http://www.fadden.com/cdrfaq/ - Andy McFadden's incredibly comprehensive FAQ http://www.cdspeed.com - They have benchmarks on almost any drive you can think of. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
