One thing I've noticed and been playing with lately, is that some 12"s, even if their proper playback speed is 45 rpm, can sound wonderful at 33 as well. Right now I'm listening to a sampler 12" called ETR#3/Raginakudo on Eat This Records with one song each by L'usine, Quench, Gimmik, and Swap. The L'usine is obviously supposed to be 45 rpm, but all four of them sound amazing at 33. The Swap sounds wrong at 45 and the Quench track is probably my favorite. I tried the same thing with Autechre's "Flutter" and ended up liking it somewhere between the two speeds. I think I ended up putting my 1200 at 45 rpm -3 or -4. When pitched WAY down, Kid 606's "My Kitten Went to London" from the GQ on the EQ 10" (33 rpm -8) sounds like Muslimgauze. _____________________________________________________________________________________ Get more from the Web. i do know that funkstorung's "post art" ep has two songs that sound just perfect at 45, and two that sound just perfect at 33. So i was under the impression that they made the record at different speeds, to be different. imagine my dismay when i heard the cd and discovered that they were all intended to be at 33rpm. anywho, for all you peepz wif the "post art" 12", try listening to the "slower" songs at 45. you might be pleased :D cheers, /derek At 12:07 AM 11/30/2000 +0000, you wrote:

actually, funkst?rung intended those tracks to be played at both speeds i believe... if you have an audio editor...and a little time on your hands...you can take the mp3.s from the cd and speed them up. in cool edit you would make them 74% of the original length. 33.30/45.00 = 00.74 enjoy. lander;. _________________________________________________________________________ From: EggyToast <youn0394@umn.edu> To: idm@hyperreal.org Subject: Re: [idm] faster or slower Date: Wed, 29 Nov 2000 23:54:42 i do know that funkstorung's "post art" ep has two songs that sound just perfect at 45, and two that sound just perfect at 33. I can't speak for post art (I bought the CD), but if memory serves, "Sonderdienste" was listed as "33/45" on the label, even though each of the individual tracks were listed as 33 rpm. At least a couple tracks on that one work out beautifully in 45. Cheers, M. ----- Made with affection by distrustful lovers. "darren milos" <the_lim@hotmail.com> wrote:

I always used to play my Michael Fakesch "Demon" EPs at 33rpm, until I ended up getting hold of "Marion" on CD and found all my favourites were at the 45rpm speed! The BOC remix of "Surfaise" still sounds better @ 33rpm though! -- Mark Stevens http://www.headspin.clara.net/ --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
