One thing I've noticed and been playing with lately, is that some 12"s, even
if their proper playback speed is 45 rpm, can sound wonderful at 33 as well.
Right now I'm listening to a sampler 12" called ETR#3/Raginakudo on Eat This
Records with one song each by L'usine, Quench, Gimmik, and Swap. The L'usine
is obviously supposed to be 45 rpm, but all four of them sound amazing at
33. The Swap sounds wrong at 45 and the Quench track is probably my
favorite.
I tried the same thing with Autechre's "Flutter" and ended up liking it
somewhere between the two speeds. I think I ended up putting my 1200 at 45
rpm -3 or -4.
When pitched WAY down, Kid 606's "My Kitten Went to London" from the GQ on
the EQ 10" (33 rpm -8) sounds like Muslimgauze.
