i don't know what's worse... the lingering impact of twelve years of reagan and bush snr's military-industrial spending sprees and halving of the currency value which only put this country a few trillions in debt: -- http://www.publicdebt.treas.gov/opd/opdhisto4.htm or my current music buying habits, which are almost but not quite as frivolous. in seriousness though, tipper probably did more to point kids to the good stuff, and did more for the music industry to sell records than any prude before her. most of the american audience for idm probably wouldn't exist in its current form without her influence on our tastes. but ignoring more than a decade of ultra right-wing, hard-fisted rule is a bit tough for some of us. sorry, joel. so down with dubya! kid606/cex in 2000! rock the vote! pbbt! -a. -- Alex Reynolds SAS Computing / Biology University of Pennsylvania Philadelphia, PA 19104-6228 V +1 215 573.2818 / F +1 215 898.8780 http://www.sas.upenn.edu/~reynolda/ --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Sweet Merciful, Alex, mine are *astronomically* more frivolous--and I have the IDM-squandered Graduate School University Stipends and bloody credit-card bills (coupled with the unspeakable Dantean horrors of multiple decades of severe-debt-Hades looming on the near horizon) to prove it... *sigh*

Fine, if that's the way you see it. I'm not trying to change anyone's minds here; truth be told, I'm more of a Libertarian than I am a Republican, anyhow--as are many of us Reaganites who perhaps <cough!> part ideological ways with the Republican Party, shall we say, when it comes to certain drug policies. My point was simply that I don't want to read about *politics*--whether they happen align with my own views or not--on an *IDM* list. Two consecutive simply rants tripped my trigger.

Pbbt! indeed. Now *there's* a ticket I could get behind... Oh, yes: In addition to my planning on voting for George W., did I forget to mention that I think Aphex, Autechre, and BOC are, for the most part, utter crap (save, perhaps, for the latter's _Hi Scores_)...?!? No, really. I *do*. ;-) <Quickly reaches for "Sign Off" icon...> yipeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, Joel --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
