Okay, time for some suggestions...my stack is getting boring. What are the highlights over the past few weeks/months for everyone else out there? I'm still excited about: Marumari - The Wolves Hollow - haunting, cool, ingenious themed idm (though he'd HATE this description, I'm sure). tim koch - Please Don't Tell Me That's Your Volvo - great sophomore effort...lighter than the first one. autechre - coachella mp3s - just plain good, now that I finally get to hear it radiohed - kid a (ahem) hrm...well, short list...so what am I missing out on these days?? ---brian ------------------------ Brian W. Yip : I was getting bored too, so I've gone back in time, rediscovering funky bluesy stuff - thus at the top of the pile is: Savoy Brown - Raw Sienna. Came out in '69 (yes, that's right!) and it's still is up there with the best. Lovely cover art too. Likewise Rare Earth and London Funk Allstars. Right... moving on: Terranova - Close the Door ('98, but I've only discovererd it now) Nils Petter Molvaer - Khmer w/ Remixes by Herbaliser, Rockers Hi Fi Tarwater - 11/6 12/10 and Rabbit Moon Lobe - Lobe (Ian Hartley's '96 album on Swim, Excellent!) Arovane - Tides (blissful) Quant - Quantastical Quantasm (still ploughing that funky groove) Swayzak - Himawari (summer's coming to South Africa soon) The Martian - Red Planet Compilation Bola - Soup (this one keeps on going - brilliant) I * np : Beck - Tropicalia --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Mouse on Mars:Niun Niggnug every time I listen to this I find something new. It took a long time to grow on me but I think I'm currently seeing the genius. V/A:Sonig comp Read above. This comp is worth it just for the Vert track and FX randomiz's opening barrage. Ensemble: Sketch proposals. This one I'm still trying to work into. I had super High hopes for it. And well some tracks do sound like an incredible mix of Autechre and MBV others sound bland and lifeless. I'm hoping that this type of stuff really breaks though and we start to see a lot more 'glitch-pop' with vocals. Makesnd:Cassette This is as awesome as everyone says. Lb: Pop artificiellle ... Geez N' Gosh: my life with jesus. Reminded me of both why I love Uwe and also why I stopped buying all of his releases. Each of theses CD's contains 2 or 3 beautifully sublime tracks (LB's rendition of superbad is soulless its got soul.) but the rest seems trite and repetitive. If Uwe released 1 or 2 records a year he would easily be my favorite electronic artists of all time. As it is I need to convince myself every now and then to pick up his new ones. Ovalprocess Get it you will not be disappointed. No beats just some incredible built up rhythm and noise. My vote for album of the year. Octant: Shock-No-par. Octant is a local Seattle artist who builds machines that actually play real drums, sorta robot like, which he controls with a drum machine. The music has vocals, and catchy little one handed melodies and a lot of noises, weird cool noises. And fuck its good. I haven't heard their newest disk but this one has gone into my CD player at least once a week since I got it. Pixies: Surfer Rosa. where is your mind? m. Plex/Elliot

Easy, all the latest remix projects: Kid 606 vs. Kid A Autechre: SpeaRMX- remixes of Britney Spears Pre-release of Radio Head: Kid B (B sides) sounds much more like autechre than even autechre does. Boards of Canada split 12? with Merzbow being remixed by Bjork Autechre/Madonna RMX project: sounds a lot like Funkstorung. And The Vladislav Delay remixed by Skinny Puppy! Fucking great stuff ;) -AL

Ekswyzia - Logans EP (Phthalo) Finally got around to checking this out. I have to say I think this is both brilliant and cheesy at the same time. Sort of 70's Jan Hammer meets Sun Ra meets a free jazz drum machine. The drum machine stuff gives it this mid-80's, lower east side, Elliot Sharp kinda feel though which always makes you lose some points in my book. If samples of real drums were used instead it would have sounded even better. So this is Dimitri Fergadis / Phthalocyanine ? Radiohead - Kid A Jay-Z - Vol. 3 The Life And Times Of S. Carter I get annoyed when people start talking about how this and that mainstream thing sounds like IDM, but I have to say the backing track on "S.Carter" sounds like "I Care Because You Do" era Aphex. Björk - Selmasongs Ambarchi / Fennesz / Pimmon / Rehberg / Rowe - Afternoon Tea (Ritornell) This is OK, not great though. John Cage / Joëlle Léandre - The Wonderful Widow Of Eighteen Springs (Wergo) I actually don't like this one that much. Terry Riley - In C (CBS) Tons of other stuff sitting around waiting to be listened to.
