allow me to de-lurk for a moment. big fat imho on this one:

um, why shouldn't "scene and community" go together? we are social animals, after all. people like their "scenes" to have a sense of "community" for the same reason anyone enjoys community - it's fun, and in many ways useful, to be associated with a group that has the same interests and tastes as oneself. there's nothing wrong with wishing the idm "scene" could have more "community." or in wishing the idm crowd were more friendly, or the artists less obnoxious (i'm not saying they are). those seem to be reasonable complaints, and a tormented-artist-shy- computer-geek-asshole is still an asshole. if your point is that we should remove ourselves completely from the rock&roll/artist-as-author paradigm, then i disagree. i just don't see the point of it. while markus popp should clearly not be deified, what's wrong with saying "dude, nice show" or "i appreciate what you do" or somesuch, if you think the guy has talent? (wait, i'm mixing threads aren't i?)

from a simple exchange of goods and services standpoint, this is bullshit. it absolutely IS her job to serve the crowd, if they paid 15 or 20 bucks to see her that night. it's a job, dammit. if you don't like it then you shouldn't be playing live - to do otherwise and then treat your paying crowd like shit is pretty fucked up. likewise, if you push play on your laptop and spend the rest of the time playing solitaire, you've pretty much ripped off your fans, imho, and that is something worth complaining about. (unless it's cex dancing around and eating live chickens or whatever - now that's entertainment!) it's called a performance for a reason, and if you're not up to the task then you shouldn't be charging admission. nub, np. nothing --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

A while back someone posted saying they DJ a weekly (?) experimental electronic/IDM radio show on some radio station in Boulder, CO. If that person is still around, I have a question for them, cuz I think I might have heard their show last night. Specifically, I was listening to 88.5 at around 1am and heard this really interesting track. It started with some noises and a person talking, then two people talking, then more and more layers of talking until a mid-tempo beat kicked in. Does this sound familiar to anyone? It was kinda bizarre and very cool and I want more. Cheers, BK! --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

narcotics or acupuncture (it really works) Atom P.S. If anyone will be in NYC for CMJ festival this October 19-22, Melange will be performing. We don't have a date or venue yet (hello, CMJ?) but look out for us - or subscribe to our mailing list at http://www.melange.org .There will be a plethora of bands this year, even more than usual. Nicotine provides for your brain a synthetic rush of the neurotransmitter dopamine, which is the prime regulator of all "good" feelings that you have. Hence the extra dopamine makes you feel good, so the problem then is that when you quit, you experience a dopamine deficiency. I still smoke, but the times i've tried to quit the only things that have made it easier were: 1. an ssri, being the anti-depressants, prozac, luvox, paxil, celexa etc. These even out ur brain a bit. 2. Dexedrine. commonly prescribed for ADD, dexedrine is dextroamphetamine, and gives you the dopamine rush that you would commonly associate with cigarettes. Those are my tips, get RX's if you can. props, cdin --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
