ok this is "off topic" but for those who get upset about that kinda of thing, dont read this. someone asked what the definition of tech house is... but thats just the beginning... what is progressive trance? is that just normal trance? i know what psy/goa is.. i think i understand NRG and hard nrg, thats just like pounding with samples, but not a lot of melodies... what exactly is the definition of house? deep house? any other houses? what is acid? hard acid? acid house? i figure you people will know. thanks in advance. im just curious, and want to know what people are talking about. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Thing with four walls and a roof ... yes I agree, all this defining music to the minutest particle is crazy. And Deep House to one is Progressive Trance to the next. To be less flippant, you can read up about the history and emergency of "house" in many published books but basically anything housey has a 4x4 kickdrum. viz. the Roland 808. Deep House to me is stretched out disco without the vocals (sometimes diva's take a turn) - lots of it is very nice, actually (see Daniel Ibbotsen & co).

Anything "acid" is not (strictly, ha ha) drug related, but refers to the squelchy sounds of the TB303. And so on and so forth. Have fun finding out :-) I * --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

When I think tech house, IMHO is housier version of melodic techno. Perhaps, house with Detroit influences

I always thought that was trance on the more commercial side. I only say this because of the records I have seen in those sections.

I always thought it was fast pop music.

I too am a little confused, not that I really care. What's the difference between house & garage & Hardbag & handbag?

Acid is typically 303 sounds. Hard Acid would be hard techno with 303s. Acid house popped up in the late 80s. Damn every tune said "Acid or Aciiied or Ecstacy in it". "Kiss my acid" Go listen to Mr Fingers if you want to know Acid house. ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

"Darkside: Far from the ecstasy-addled headz grinning wider with every 808 beat, far from the beatific glow of Glam's glitter, far from the cuddly joys of the chill room is a sound far more Gothic in atmosphere. All dance and ambient music has a dark side, but some artists choose to dwell in grim and melancholic sounds, creating the alienated atmospheres of Dark Ambient, the harsh angularity of Industrial Dance and the post-Goth synth sounds of Darkwave." This is a frightening paragraph in far too many ways. --Sharon --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Agreed. When i was carting about Oliver Lieb last month he dismissed subgenres because one man's progressive trance is another man's ambient (ok not literally, but you get my meaning). ----- Original Message ----- From: "Irene McC" <substar@iafrica.com> To: <MickPick@aol.com> Cc: <> Sent: Thursday, August 17, 2000 3:41 AM Subject: Re: [idm] definitions of techno subgenres
