also the Allegory & Metaphor album is available from emusic.com as a pay-for-download @ $8.99. there is a great write-up on Sean Deason there and apparently this is a re-release. in the article they mention his friendship with Kenny Larkin and Richie Hawtin and how it helped develop his music writing skills... http://www.emusic.com/artists/12816/Sean_Deason/ there is a write up of Japanese Telecom here: http://www.emusic.com/artists/12814/ the new album is not available on the site yet. justes "Lance @ Inaudible" wrote:

Went to this site, and at the end they state:

But I have an album by him titled "Freq. heaven" - did they fail to mention it, or am I wrong, or what? They also describe him as a "Detroit Third-Waver". Considering that probably the holy trinity of first wavers were Juan Atkins, Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson - who are the second wavers then, if Sean's the third? - Presumably Kenny Larkin and Richie Hawtin??? :-) I * --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

They also forgot 1996's Razorback, actually *released* under his own name just like Allegory & Metaphor... .John. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Though there are no hard and fast rules, consensus summary of Detroit's "waves" seems to be: First wave: The "Holy Trinity" (Atkins, May, Saunderson) "Techno 1" & "Techno 2" comp participants (Octave One, Eddie Fowlkes, Shake, K Alexi, etc.) Second Wave: UR, Mills, Hawtin Third Wave: Claude Young, Sean Deason, Drexciya, Alan Oldham, Kelli Hand, etc. Fourth Wave: Ectomorph, Le Car, Adult, Recloose, many others Of course, it gets _way_ more complicated if you start trying to figure out where the house (KDJ, Theo Parrish, etc.) and booty (Godfather, Assault, etc.) guys fit in... -d.w. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Hi Irene, The next 'wave' of prolific Detroit producers (1990-94) included Carl Craig, DBX (Daniel Bell), Robert Hood, Red Planet (James Pennington), Mad Mike Banks, Jeff Mills, Octave One, Drexciya, Alan Oldham, etc...and of course Kenny Larkin. Soon after that golden period emerged another generation of producers which included Terence Dixon, Stacey Pullen, Sean Deason, Jay Denham, Ectomorph, Claude Young, Anthony Shakir, Heath Brunner (Vmax), etc. I would imagine the current 'wave' of premier Detroit artists to include Theo Parrish, Moodyman, Dale Lawrence (Theorem), Rolando (Aztec Mystic), Shawn Rudiman ... You might be correct Andrew, though I thought he was from Detroit. Anyone else have confirmations of this? His last 2 releases are on 7th City and Hypervinyl. Maybe Jwan Allen could shed more light on this.
