Apologies if this has already been posted, I just got back on the list. actually it's quite amazing... approx. 20 minutes (just long enough to get a good idea of what it can do yet not enough that you get tired of the idea) of unique, most decidedly idm sounding repetitiveness. great listening. sounds even better over headphones, and a bonus is that included on the disc are several of the ascii files used to create the disc. the whole thing had me screaming, "why didn't anyone else think of that...?" craig.

I thought Symphony for Dot Matrix Printers was a cool ep that showed what unique sounds could be created from mundane non-musical environmental sounds but i certainly wouldnt call it "idm." I think a better description would be an experimental sound collage that randomly fluctuates between structured and unstructured patterns. I did, however, tire of the sounds used on this cd rather quickly so this on probably wont get frequent repeat listens. I definitely think comparing this to Autechre would be a stretch but it is a cool concept. -->-Lance--- lance@inaudible.com p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

it sounds like Autechre more or less thought of it with Chiastic Slide.. ------------------------------------------------------------------- This message has been posted from Mail2Web http://www.mail2web.com/ Web Hosting for $9.95 per month! actually the concept has been around since (afaik) the 70's and early hacker culture. if you look in the hackers quiz (and perhaps the jargon lexicon) you will find the question 'Do you make line printer music?'. i tried using dot matrix printers as sound generation quite a while ago (after reading the afformentioned question) although at the time didn't see the 'musical' value. i like what these guys have done, but don't think by any means they were the first... --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
