actually the concept has been around since (afaik) the 70's and early hacker
culture. if you look in the hackers quiz (and perhaps the jargon lexicon)
you will find the question 'Do you make line printer music?'.
i tried using dot matrix printers as sound generation quite a while ago
(after reading the afformentioned question) although at the time didn't see
the 'musical' value.
i like what these guys have done, but don't think by any means they were the
first...
