I finally listened to this, and think it's pretty damn fun... though I think I've nailed down two of the Kid's secret weapons regarding this track.. * I hear bits of ring modulation c/o the KAOSS PAD... * the shorten-then-expand-the-digital-delay thing.... Lots of artists use this... (Steve Fisk especially in his sample/loop work from the 80s) Basically, you take a sample, filter it through a digital delay effect, shorten the sample time until it's around a few fractions of a second -- creating this drilling sound, then re-expand the sample back to its original length again. Basically, it's the aural equivalent of taking a graphic file at 300 dpi, bringing it down to 16 dpi, then bringing it up back to 300 dpi in increments, so you can view the round-off errors in terms of noise and distortion in the asset. Admittedly, I probably would have liked the remix a lot more if I hadn't meddled with such musical effects myself -- but hey, I still think the results are pretty entertaining... ======================================================================= Brian MacDonald <brianm@kuci.org> KUCI 88.9 fM in Irvine, CA -- Orange County ======================================================================= --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
