I finally listened to this, and think it's pretty damn fun... though I
think I've nailed down two of the Kid's secret weapons regarding this
track..
* I hear bits of ring modulation c/o the KAOSS PAD...
* the shorten-then-expand-the-digital-delay thing.... Lots of artists
use this... (Steve Fisk especially in his sample/loop work from the 80s)
Basically, you take a sample, filter it through a digital delay effect,
shorten the sample time until it's around a few fractions of a second
-- creating this drilling sound, then re-expand the sample back to its
original length again. Basically, it's the aural equivalent of taking a
graphic file at 300 dpi, bringing it down to 16 dpi, then bringing it up
back to 300 dpi in increments, so you can view the round-off errors in
terms of noise and distortion in the asset.
Admittedly, I probably would have liked the remix a lot more if I hadn't
meddled with such musical effects myself -- but hey, I still think the
results are pretty entertaining...
