Hey guys/gals...Any of you that use Fruity Loops know how to do a volume slide? I've been playing around with it for months now and I can't figure out how. If you don't know what I mean: Say you have a looped synth sound and you want to have it fade in or out smoothly, how the hell do you do it? It's one of several things that really bothers me about the program. Secondly, what do you guys use to sequence on your PCs? See, I'm getting a new pc at the end of the month and will be able to do a lot more music stuff (more powerful programs, etc). I like Fruity Loops ok, but I don't think it was made w/sequencing in mind. And those fucking dots drive me crazy sometimes. :) I've played w/Audiomulch a little but there is no way to sequence! It's all gotta be real-time, right? I guess I'm looking for something more advanced than a step sequencer. Is Buzz any good? My current pc hasn't allowed me to use it too much. Ok, any help is very much appreciated. Thanks for reading... I, being lame, still use Fast Tracker 2.09 for all of my tracking and use Goldwave to make samples and to do all of my postproduction type work. It works really well for me, but I probably only stick with it because I've been using Fast Tracker for about 6 years now. I would really recommend that you pick up the Buzz, Acid and Modplug Trackers and try them out- you're bound to like on of them if tracking is what you're looking for. You should also probably check out Cubase- I've played around with it but it doesn't like the soundcard on my laptop and it's a clunky interface, so I haven't used it too much. Anybody out there do their sound stuff in Linux? I've played around with SoundTracker and a few other little programs, but the interface still isn't what I want, so I'm stuck with a Windows (bleck) partition. Also, what would people out there recommend for effects/mastering WAVs? I currently use Goldwave and I've played around with CoolEdit and SoundForge a bit. -- :: atomly :: atomly@atomly.com | atomly@atdot.org | atomly@cyrus.net http://www.atomly.com | http://www.mp3.com/atomly [CELL|(888)522.3830] | [CELL|(701)729.1631] | [HOME|(651)748.8676] --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

On previous versions, you can only change the volume of individual hits, and couldn't change the volume of a sample once it's started other then hitting it again with a different level. This works fine for drums and shit but sucks for pads, loops, etc. The new version, 2.01, lets you record and edit many of the knobs including the master and individual part volumes. And it also responds to midi controllers, which is dope. Check it out.

I personally use cubase vst24 and love it, but have friends (mainly lex and pieter k) who use logic and swear by it because of the total control you have over midi AND audio. Both of these guys do stuff that would be a serious pain in the ass in cubase. Other then that that, all I can say is the fruity loops is a great program but you will find that step programming, although fun, can be extremely limiting. And with super duper softsynths like reaktor/audiomulch/reality/AS1/DS1/etc, you really need a serious sequencer to get down to the nitty gritty of these beasts. Not to mention a piece of gear with a bunch of knobs that all send midi controller data like a virus, basstation, phatboy or 4control. Hope this helps. brockout. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

With version 1.7.6 you can't do a good volume slide. With version 2.0 the volume and pan knobs are recordable as in ReBirth (with a graphical editor to fine-tune the slides/variations). Most (if not all) of the TS-404 knobs are fully recordable as well. So, I suggest that you get version 2.0 ($99 before December 15). It has a lot of other enhancements as well, like four more effect channels in addition to the ability to use DX plugins (in version 1.7.6 there were only four effect channes and only VST plugin support). The main volume, resonance and cutoff are also recordable (and I think the shuffle slider, too) in the new version. The TS-404 sound has been revamped a bit, so your old tracks might not sound the same anymore, which was a big drawback. Someone asked how the new sound generation algorithms compare to those in the old version but there has yet to be a reply. This applies between versions 1.7.6 and 2.0. I like FL because it is simple, (somewhat :) easy to use and very powerful piece of software in its price class. It does need quite a bit of oomph from a computer if you intend to use a lot of samples/effects/ recorded knobs, but hardware is cheap nowadays. Very good value for the $99 I paid for it. The effects (DX or VST) are quite expensive (compared to FL itself), but for very basic stuff e.g. FL's standard delay and reverb are good enough. The reverb is a bit clunky so I would suggest getting a plug-in for that, and some compressor/limiter/eq plug-ins are good to have (if you want to adjust samples separately on-the-fly instead of finalising them in some sample-editing software).

I use FL even to sequence tracks (especially now with the new version), but every now and then I use Acid as well (with loops imported from FL, FL has an export to Acid setting). I have been content with the FL sequencer when doing software-only tracks, but there are some limitations in FL itself that drives me nuts at times (like the lack of decent support for variable time signatures). For finalising and adjusting samples I use Sound Forge. For finalising the tracks themselvels I use SF as well, but most of the time I run the tracks through T-Rack (a standalone compressor/limiter/eq) to fine-tune the soundscapes. FruityLoops 2.0 http://www.fruityloops.com/ ($99 bef. Dec 15, $129 after) Acid 2.0 Pro http://www.sonicfoundry.com/ ($399) Sound Forge 4.5 http://www.sonicfoundry.com/ ($499) T-Racks 1.1 http://www.t-racks.com/ ($299) Of course Logic Audio Platinum would be the choisest piece of software for a serious bedroom musician, but the price is a bit prohibitive for those of us that do not get their end's meet from dabbling with audio (http://www.emagic.de/, the price I found was 6995DKR, that would be, um, something like $950). I admit that it is less than the four mentioned above, but hey, you get four pieces of software and they do the job well enough for us not-so-very-serious bedroom musicians :). This has _not_ been a product endorsement :) Cheers, -- diversion : nuutti-iivari meriläinen : gordon at diversion dot org communications : http colon slash slash www dot diversion dot org slash --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I find wavelab 2.02 the best...being able to link up to 6 plugins without having to use the audio chainer in soundforge is excellent...the graphical display is a bit lame but fairly easy to get used to and the power of the program more than makes up for it... on the other hand soundforge 4.5c is also very powerful and it also has facilities for MP3 editing and with CD architect you have all your burning needs covered (i would imagine) ... my 0.02c (about 1.28us c) ionizer --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

wait just one minute, is it possible to control audiomulch with the likes of cubase vst or logic audio??? --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
