Has anybody heard the new CD on Piano records called "Rude Mechanic"? It's a collaboration between Pan Sonic and others. Could I get your opinions on it?

Quite unexpected, and unlike other Pan(a)sonic and related projects I've heard. From one track to the next, the pieces jump from restrained, non-rhythmic noise to cheese-lounge electronica. I expect the collaborators had a large contribution. I listened to the whole thing straight through, albeit sort of at 90 degrees (as opposed to background). It might work better in smaller amounts. My reaction now is it is something of a curiosity, made primarily if not exclusively for a specific purpose, rather than a work meant to be taken as a normal step in their development. Proceed with caution. Rating: maybe 5/10. "A" is worth about 8/10 at least. --Mark __ Burning Rome : SENSELESS CD on Mindfield Records MindCD03 Cathartium 14 > Distributed by Dutch East India Trading, Com Four, and Carrot Top < < http://www.xnet.com/~mkolmar/BurningRome > < MP3 & RealAudio tracks > On Sun, 21 Mar 1999, Jeremy J Graham wrote:

Ok. Thanks! I bought it but haven't unwrapped it yet. I think I'm going to return it instead, mostly based on your reply. I was kinda skeptical about it from the start. It wasn't that wanted I was looking for the "Pan(a)Sonic" sound; I just wanted some good music. But I know this group's tendancy -- or Mika V.'s at least -- to release nothing but buzzingand stuff like that. Sorry, but in my book, that dosen't = music to spend money on. Do you know what I mean? Anyway, thanks very much for yuor reply! I really appreciate it! Jeremy

Who is Koan? Track 5, I believe on the second disc of Rude Mechanic. I'm not sure I've heard of them before, but I'd like to know more. In fact, i'm having a difficult time locating info. for most of the people who contributed to this project... Thanks, Matt
