Hello my name is Santiago Cevallos ,and I am new to the list. I had the pleasure of doing the sound for the Funkstoerung party here in Miami last night. It was in a art gallery cafe in Coral Gables called Mezza. The party started of with Cookie headz (local). Really good set, played some downtempo, electro, experimental. The highlight of his set I think was when he was throwing a cookie monster record over RUN DMC's Peter piper instrumental. Then one of the Beta Bodega DJ's Ghyger Kounter went on. Also enjoyed his set. He mixed hip hop, old skool house, and I definately heard him throw in some Miles Davis, and also heard him throw in the Close Encounters of the Third Kind soundtrack in there, while he fucked with the pitch control. Then Haviken Hayes from Chocolate Industries went on. He spun hip hop, with some experimental shit. Along side with him MCing was another local hero Mc HI-Fi. Then Push Button Objects went on. He didn't do a live P.A., he actually spun. He played some old skool electro, freestyle, and Miami Bass. Right after him Phoenecia did a live P.A., real wicked they rocked it up. They played for about a half hour. Then a battle DJ went on. I don't know what his name is, cause he was not on the flyer. Then Funkstoerung went on. Actually Chris De Luca spun for about half an hour. He spun some PBO, some of his stuff, and some other shit that looked like dub plates. Then he got off the decks and they performed live. They were insane. They totally had the crowd in it. Then to close off the night Chocolate Industries own Seven and Plot spun some old Autechre, and Aphex Twin(SAW). This was definately one of the best parties down here in a while. The good thing is that we got the whole night on DAT, and also video taped. Funkstoerung was pretty cool about us taping them. I thought they would mind, but they turned out to be good guys. The only problem is that there is this nasty feedback, onsome parts of the Funkstoerung set, so we are going to run it through Pro Tools and see if we can fix it. So, as soon as it's fixed we will be happy to send copies on regular cassettes. We will only send cassettes, because digital copies are reserved for limited people. Not to be a dick or anything, but there are so many dirty bootleggers out there. So whoever wants a copy just send me hollar, but also give me some time to clean it up and dump it on cassette. I am also resident at Beat Camp here in Miami. Beat Camp is a Drum and Bass night where downstairs resident's Marco, Tea Farmer, Grrl13, Day,And Ken spin the best in Drum and Bass. Upstairs me (Tamber) and my boy Red-C, and occasionally Dj PFC (Pedro Cevallos), spin downtempo, acid jazz, electro, exprerimental hip hop, and ambient. So if any of you will be down here, swing on by. Look for my weekly play list here. Peace out from sunny South Florida, Santiago Cevallos (Tamber) P.S. August 5th, is the Metalheadz party, with Doc Scott and MC Justyc _______________________________________________________________ Get Free Email and Do More On The Web. Visit http://www.msn.com

You know, I thought so too, but it *really* depends on *which* Cookie Monster record.. All of C.M.'s early stuff is ESSENTIAL! I guess cause thats when the scene was new, the governments funding of C.T.W. and P.B.S. was goin strong and he was fresh & really inspired! If you check out any of his solo stuff during the 70's it'll would give you goose bumps!. (like "C" is for cookie) Then about the mid-eighties he really went downhill, started doing weak progressive collabs with Big Bird and Oscar the grouch and now its just watered down versions of the same old crap. Avoid all the post 1984 stuff but keep your eyes open for any pre 1980 material! Man, Ernesto, I am surprised at you. Cookie Monster is nothing but a Grover fanboy wannabe, he apes Grover like nobody's business, except he lacks the emotional palette Grover draws from that gives his work such a human feeling. listen to 'Wubba wubba wubba and a woo woo woo' or 'I am Blue' to know what I'm talking about.. two complete opposite ends of the emotional spectrum. Cookie Monster never transcends his own Monsterness, and indeed, doesn't even seem to recognize it. And of course, in the early 90s, while Grover was progressing his style and people realized Cookie Monstrer was just a one-trick stale-ass-stale knock off, Cookie Monster made that famous surprisng and profitable turn of hooking up with all those death metal bands, where his singing style was not only appreciated, but copied for years to come. I don't think Cookie Monster does anything now, he's probably living large off all the royalties he gets from Victory Records. ,rj../ ___,">www.gl.umbc.edu/~nworth1

I think the big sticking point was when Cookie signed up with the "Got Milk?" campaign. He totally sold out and got soft. "Grover Sings the Blues" has always been an overlooked album in the CTW catalog... it never got the attention of the more pedestrian records, like "Bert's Blockbusters" or "Big Bird Discovers the Orchestra." I actually have a pretty sizeable collection of CTW records (ask anyone) maybe I'll put some stuff up on bleepbloop this weekend... .Bil. ich|bin|ein|kopieier

I thought this was the IDM list. Why are we discussing these two pop sellouts? Bert & Ernie made some of the best disco house ever before they got caught with a trunkful of dope and got sent to the slammer. Intense stuff, but NOO, all we want to talk about on this list are Ae, NIN, CM & Grover. Then you gotta slam on Oscar G, his shit was tuff and you know it! He made that CD of breaks that all the Chain Reaction artists use, and he's on the Trash compilation too. You don't dis my man Osc. Tom P.S. Does anybody have a complete discography (remixes, etc.) for Krmit Tha Frogg?

nyeah, I don't think so! Have you heard Grover Sings the Blues ?... Cookie was never developed as the depressed 5year old that Grover was.

One of my Bert & Ernie records has them with their arms around each other and it is called "Love", and it has a song where they are taking a bath together. Hmmm, indeed! Oscar did a song called "Noise" in which (like in I Love Trash) he lists dissonant noises, excellent for scratching... The best Sesame Street record by far is "Roosevelt franklin", with maybe the alphabet one or "Monsters!" in close second. Oh, also, on the B&E "at home" record, you get a skit about the "automatic 'R' machine", which is clearly a modular synth of some kind, and also Ernie plays the drums to Bert's knocking on the door trying to get in to their apt. solenoid

dude, lookout for the new lahlah stuff -- it litterally _schools_ cookie monster's latest would-be four-on-the-flour noodlings (especially his 'bake art' record on chocolate industries which invariably fails to rise when it should.) but i still think cookie m.'s career went down the hill after his chip tunes series on rephlex. -- david

You know, for all us 20- and 30- somethings here, "Sesame Street" was a bigger musical influence than we think...the late Joe Raposo, who wrote most of the music for the show, used a lot of jazz and boogaloo influences in the music.
