just picked up Crank- Wonton Phenomenon and like it lots. perhaps more dark than low res but still the same man for sure. if you like low res- get this Crank release as well! questions: the digipak the crank cd came in has a slot inside for a seperate booklet. but the booklet is missing in my new copy- is there even supposed to be a booklet? also, can someone tell me the name of the first Crank release, and maybe what its like compared to Wonton or the Low Res...? thanks for any info- -Thad

The "first" Crank album was called Wanton Phenomena and it was released on the Phthalo label. The Wanton Phenomena cd on Mille Plateaux is basically a re-release of the Crank cd on the Phthalo label with two small differences: . The track Lamb Baah, which appeared on the Phthalo version of Wanton Phenomena, was removed from the Mille Plateaux version and put on the Modulation & Transformation #4 compilation. . A new track, 10"+, was added to the end of the Mille Plateaux version. Here is an old recoreview of it: . Crank: Wanton Phenomena cd (Phthalo 04) Another new album from Danny Zelonky aka Low Res, this time on Phthalocyanine?s Phthalo label. This one has more of an organic & percussive sound to it than this recent Approximate Love Boat cd on Plug Research but don't let that frighten you at all. Wanton Phenomena contains twelve tracks of quality IDM that fits in nicely with recent releases from Solvent, Bola, Bannlust, Epy, and Lustmord vs Metalbeast. Expect haunting melodies over crunchy, often polyrhythmic percussion with just a touch of experimentalism.
