The Arovane clear 7" is lush as well on City Centre Offices (?). The A-side is amazing, the B-side less so but still good. This is the label set up by Pelican Neck Records in Manchester. Spoke to them about this on Saturday and they have further plans for future releases, which it would be indiscreet to reveal. adam

Honestly, I've listened to it only once. That said, when you play it next to the Arovane, Monolake, and Funkstorung contributions, Ae doesn't stand up quite as well. All the others are putting forth new sounds, new rhythmic structures that on the surface seem fresh (Funkstorung to a lesser degree); Ae seems to be static. It may have a lot to do with when the tracks were recorded (time lag between their evolving musical process and when the tracks actually see the light of day), but I was most impressed with the Monolake bit--it's a gem. Have yet to spin the new Arovane (FWD--will do tonight) and possess a well-worn copy of his CCO 7-inch, but what other Arovane would people recommend? laz Sebastien Beaulieu wrote:

Hello. artist :: arovane title :: atol scrap label :: din tracks :: nonlin.r tascel_7 thaem nue ambelio scapen te norvum revart amx failed amine r/elet atol scrap Two words: fucking gorgeous. Just as I thought this sub-genre was disappearing up its arse, thanks to the million and one Autechre emulators, along comes Arovane to shift the goal posts. 65 minutes of delicate melodies, soundscapes, edgy ambience and digital manipulation. If I had to compare it to something, imagine a cross between Michael Fakesch's "Marion" and Bola's "Soup". But I don't really want to -- "Atol Scrap" trandscends such comparisons. Also picked up the double "Clicks and Cuts" release. Just given it a brief skim through -- I'll give it some proper attention later. Sounds very interesting though. Sort of the next step on from Aphex's SAW2. -- Mark Stevens http://www.headspin.clara.net/ http://pressx.cjb.net/ --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Hello. Having been hooked on Arovane after listening to the sublime "Atol Scrap" album, I immediately ran out to buy the three EPs on Din. Now I'm hungry for similar stuff. I've got pretty much all the stuff by the usual suspects -- Warp, Skam, Diskono, Musik aus Strom, Fat Cat, etc. I'm looking for anything that combines the sonic outlandishness of Autechre/Funkstorung with the gorgeous melodies of Bola. Arovane fits the bill -- anything else I'm overlooking. Looking forward to Plod's "Pillow Talk". -- Mark Stevens http://www.headspin.clara.net/ http://pressx.cjb.net/ --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I personally dont think of Arovane's tracks/releases as 'dark' but to answer your question, his Din 12" eps are no 'darker' than the Forward 12". But, continuing with you light/dark theme, I think that the Arovane cd (and the CCO 7" for that matter) are the 'lightest' of the Arovane releases. Quick Arovane discog for you: . Arovane: Atol Scrap cd (Din) . Arovane: Icol Diston 12" (Din) . Arovane: I.O. 12" (Din) . Arovane: occer 7" (City Centre Offices) . Arovane: plnt 12" (FWD:) . I would suggest picking up most arovane stuff, as its all great... the first two 12" on din have a slightly diffrent feel to the current material, but are excellent all the same... discog.. .arovane - io/torn (din 12") .arovane - icol diston (din 12") .arovane - amx (din 12") .arovane - occer (cco 7") .arovane - plnt/thaem (fwd 12") .arovane - atol scrap (din cd) .arovane & christian kliene - yeer (awkward silence 7") remixes.. .no movement no sound no memories (removed : amx) (lux nigra 12") .accelera deck - halo ep (amx 1/amx 2) (morr music 12") compilations.. .biophilia allstars compilation (nedjev : sine) (lux nigra lp) forthcoming.. .arovane - tides (cco lp/cd) .arovane - tba (morr music 12") .arovane - tba (cco compilation album) as far as other artists to check out in a similar vain, I would say that the new Process : shape-space lp/cd on fat-cat is some really nice dubby techno stuff.. and on a similar but slightly diffrent tip is Phonem (on morr music & jetlag, and has new stuff coming on vertical form, morr music, pubroc-smalls, and the cco compilation later this year). His stuff blew me away last year... he is also a good friend of Arovanes and I believe they are working on matieral together... dan. -- dan@madvision.co.uk www.madvision.co.uk --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

The best I can say is check out Arovane's influences and contemporaries. I'd say these are mostly contained in the Chain Reaction camp and the affiliated labels. This is probably the only "new music" of any relevance these days and most Monolake/Arovane/Various Artists/etc. is absolutely excellent. Of course Basic Channel if you're not familiar with them. I also have learned to love Arovane, just picked up Atol Scrap this weekend. The only thing that I have that is comparable to it would be the Chris de Luca - Unknown EP. I found this release strange because I love tracks three and four but find that one and two sound like elevator music. Anyways, three and four are similar to the Arovane stuff, definetely recommend.

the stuff arovane released on din.. especially the first 12" (din 1?) one of the most impressive 12"s ever in my opinion. not as impressive as the plug research mini compilation 2 (prmc2), but that's a whole different box of noises. chris. On Tue, 7 Mar 2000, matthew d salcido wrote:
