Hello all . . . Any opinions on Si Begg's "Commuter World"?? Looks interesting . . . intriguing track titles anyway -- similar to KLF's "Chill Out" .... I was impressed by his Cabbageboy contribution to the Kungfunkfusion comp. -- quirky enough to be on Blip, Bleep... sean. np: HowieB//Sly n Robbie :: D n B stripped to the bone

I don't know the one you talk of, "Commuter World" but if it's SI Begg it has to be good!!! I own a few things he's done and if you've not listened to Bunkfunk 3000 LP, you should! That electro track Planet Future Rock (something like that) has got to be one of the HARDEST tracks I've heard in ages. Oh wait, I heard it ages ago...anyway, go get it and I'll go looking for the COMMUTER WORLD thanks, didn't know of this thing. gilly

I'm listening to it right now, and have been for the past few weeks. The album is ahem "London Underground-related" in that you get loads of samples of urban transport noise, and that's reflected in the track titles too. Some of it might sound really familiar to (also temporary) Londoners. Si Begg is a funky man. I absolutely love his Planet EP under the Cabbageboy moniker. Commuter world is in parts discontinuous (?), quirky, but you get the same funky/kitsch synthlines heard elsewhere in his work and the pulse for some good beats too. A good album, in my opinion.

you said: Any opinions on Si Begg's "Commuter World"?? Looks interesting . . . [] i think it's great personally, and here in SF there are tons of copies in used bins all over the city. it's a concept album, in that all the songs are inspired by the daily London commute. lots of subway and traffic samples, but used very cleverly. musically it's all over the board, with some electro, techno, drum'n'bass and house influences showing up. if you liked the buckfunk 3000 album (which i did) you'll love this. not quite the same, really, but produced just as well. mikebee

Hope there aren't any "Mind the Gap" samples - That would just drive me spare. Si Begg's Peel sessions a while back were pretty good as I remember it. And it sounded like he had a ton of work waiting to be released. Mini Reviews : Squarepushers new mini-album - Not bad, but I can't remember much about it yet. But it doesn't seem to be as murky as MIRON. Jimi Tenor : Organism - This is ace! Loved Intervision, and this is better. Buy it! Method Man : Judgement Day Remixes. Bought it coz I'm a Roni Size fan, but I think I prefer Tricky's remix on it. Haven't got the original, so I can't comment on the work overs though. Underworld - Surprisingly very good. Big Detroit influence. Ed Rush and Optical : Wormholes. It's good, but it's gets too much. Especially the mixed CD. 20 minutes in I find it gets too much. Pole CD1 and CD2. I don't get it. It's okay, but I really don't see what all the fuss is about. And all the press have been singing the praises and I just don't understand why (yet). That's all I can think of for now. -i.

these two: 'Tis a shame. Buckfunk is Si Begg at his funkiest! The "In Is In/ PlanetShockFutureRock" 12" was superb!

Eh, this kinda failed to impress me. Then again, any artist whom I've enjoyed seems to put out substandard releases on this label. (Khan, Kerosene, etc). Odd.

Wonderful, if you like silly! Tops the Trash complications even for cheese. Fun fun fun! Got his recent 12" on Under 5's (though the copyright goes to Skint, oddly enough? Plus it says "promo only", though I bought it from a legit shop...BentCrayon). "Network Southeast Vol. One". Fun samples, over a more hyper (for him) techno beat. Hard for me to explain, but it seems quite good. Anybody have any insight as to this 12"? (In regards to why it says "Skint", "Promo Only", and "Vol. One"...more to come? From him?) Oh-yeah, and his recent mix of Super_Collider is funky fun. Then again, everything from Super_Collider is funky fun! :) JJTar. --- Peace Hugs and Unity Jason J. Tar W. W. J. D?
