The furniture store Ikea has some great cubicle shelving that is perfect for record storage. It's attractive, durable, and relatively inexpensive. Check http://www.ikea.com/ for more info. -->-Lance--- p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states

Ha! So glad this happens the world over :-) I've gotten to purloining of crates down to a fine art - then leave them bobbing in the swimming pool for about a week to get the worst of the grime off with the help of chlorine and pool chemicals. It struck me recently on visiting another music glutton friend how our homes have become shrines dedicated to our music collections... I'm still looking for a good (and portable) way to store CD's. A friend who DJ's off CD's has his packed in flight cases with built-in divisions, but they're quite expensive {sigh}. Currently all 500 of mine are spread out over shelves, shoeboxes and Tupperwares. I *

this past summer...to accommodate the 2500+ vinyl collection i have...i built myself a nice shelving unit... it has three levels for the vinyl....about 4 "crates" wide...therefore i have 12 crates capacity.... each of the "crates" is wood..with a lining in there so it doesnt ruin the sleeve like the plasic milk crates do... plus each "Crate" is on rollers so i can pull out which style of music i would like to hear ... on top of this unit there are the 1200's, mixer, and speakers.... and a little hook for the headphones...on top of the unit are the amp, tape deck, cd player, etc.. it cost about 50 bucks to do....will last a lifetime if you get high quality wood... only rpoblem is the disassembling/reassembling during moving time.. *ick* the schematics were done on notebook paper...and i am w/o a scanner or else i would email you the jpg... good luck... -mikeD Distortion.Records

If there's a Home Depot in your area, they sell inexpensive, DIY 4 shelf bookshelves that fit vinyl perfectly for about $30. Each unit should hold about 400-500 records. Joe

These shelves sound the same as the ones I bought at Walmart. They were cheap pine slats with screws. I just spent and afternoon and screwed them together and organized my records. It was pretty nice. They are a bit wobbly though. If you're in an area prone to earthquakes you might want to screw them down to a wall with L brackets. -rbc3
