Matador is releasing last summer's 9 track CD1 from Berlin's Pole (Stefan Betke) for North American domestic consumption on February 23, 1999. Being released the same day is the new 6 track EP from Pole. It's called CD2 and is coming out the same day in Europe on Kiff SM. Tracks are Fahren, Stadt, Streit, Huckepack, Hafen, and Welt. An interview with Mr. Betke talking about his music is online on: http://www.globalserve.net/~cognition Thanks. Andrew

Also of note is the fact that Matador is releasing the BOC Peel Sessions. Should be out at the same time as the UK Warp version. And no, they're not doing the black Dog or the Autechre Peels. Sorry. -Våt. ____________________ Reckankreuzungsklankewerkzeuge PO BOX 382864. Cambridge, MA 02238 http://www.tiac.net/users/sheket/index.html

What I really want to know is if Matador is selling many copies of all these (relatively) obscure electronic releases. They really haven't gotten much US press (I mean, who gives a fuck about Burger/Ink?) and they don't have the fanbase of Matador's indie rock. Most of my Matador indie rock lovin friends don't know a damn thing about "indie" electronic music--they know the Chems and the Prodigy and Aphex, but not Autechre or anything even slightly more obscure. Same goes for Nothing with Autechre and plug--does this stuff actually make them money, or are they just trying to get in on the ground floor for later albums with bigger sales? We Americans are so damn ignorant, it disgusts me ;-) And what's this talk i hear of the X-Ecutioners headlining at hammerstein ballroom in NY? That seems like a mighty big venue. Has indie hip-hop taken off in sales to that large an extent? Feeling drunk and bitter, but almost done with finals! I hate Lacan and Derrida and Laura Mulvey, they can deconstruct the text of my anus. Is that Freudian enough for you? Sam

All I can say is Matador is "pleased" with their electronic sales to date. And with the upcoming releases of the Pole releases, the Jega album, the Khan album and the BOC Peel Sessions they believe that sales will continue to improve. -->-Lance--- p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states

I don't know. All my indie rock friends are way into weird idm-ish stuff too. I know quite a few people who love Belle & Sebastian as much as they like, say, Autechre or pan sonic. I suppose this phenomenon varies with your area, though, and I admit that the idm fanbase is, in my experience, way smaller. And the crossover is kind of weird, considering how different the musics are. Who gives a fuck about Burger/Ink? Probably the same number of people who care about Fuck. np: belle & sebastian: TBWTAS -jerremy
