***Yep, that album is a classic. The way Sony treated him re: it was horrible, so he's been independent since. Gerald wrote 808 States' Pacific State but they didn't give him credit (he was working closely with the group at the time, so he left). He then wrote a song called Specific Hate with the same melody, etc, cept he used a breakbeat (which they apparently abhored the usage of) cause he was none too impressed. Everything's cool between Gerald and 808 State now. In fact, Gerald runs Juice Box from the same building that 808 State have their studio. Rephlex should be re-releasing 808 State's Newbuild later this month (anyone know if Quadrastate's up for a re-release too?), as well as an accompanying single containing new mixes from 808 State, A Guy Called Gerald, Martin Price and Aphex Twin. Sounds groovy. Oh, and make sure you check out A Guy Called Gerald's latest 12-inch, 'Radar Systems'. He's taken his usual drum & bass to the next level -- very organic, with hardly any repetitive sections at all. Very dense rhythms, subsonic bass and scattershot melodies. Excellent stuff -- makes Goldie's music sound like Toy Town drum & bass. /\/)ark http://www.sonance.demon.co.uk/

If he had shot himself, it would have appeared on the Associated Press Entertainment page by now: http://www.newsday.com/ap/entertai.htm Why would he kill himself when his new CD is due out on Nothing last month? Got two IDM CDs yesterday I was uncharacteristically impressed with: A Guy Called Gerald - Automanik k (1990) Pentatonik - s/t (2 CD, 1994) Former has lots of danceable 808 grooves and beautifully chaotic, dissonant loopy tunes, very reminiscent of 808 State 90 and ex:el. Latter has lush, slightly moody melodies, a variety of rhythmic styles (reminded me of Beaumont Hannant in that department), quite well thought out and consistent, better than any of the Pentatonik compilation tracks I had heard, which were pretty good to begin with. Sorry for the local post, but if you live anywhere near Texas, get your ass to this party: Spring Heel Jack, Single Cell Orchestra, and other special guests Austin Music Hall Austin, Texas. October 31st. This info was given to me by reliable source, but I have not seen a flyer just yet. I'll post any new info I come across. I haven't been to any raves on Halloween so this should be interesting. Don't know if I'd trust the candy there though.... -max ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail.
