Umm I sent this message yesterday, but it didn't appear in any of the digests I received and there was no reply to it so I'm gonna post it again. I apologize if you've already seen this. This for those of you out there who really and truly enjoy the kind of IDM that can't really be danced to, the kind of music that exists solely for the purpose of being listened to. My questions to you is: Why do you enjoy the music? What is it about the music that attracts you and holds your attention? Why would you rather be listening to bleeps, blops, and whatever, instead of say Kid Rock, Brittany Spears, or . . . dare I say it?!? . . . (well I already committed sacrilege twice already so here it goes) Fatboy slim? Also, for those of you on the list who really and truly enjoy the extremely experimental stuff, I'm especially interested to hear what you have to say on this topic. BTW: I'm not implying anything with these questions, I'm just really interested in peoples individual experience when it comes to IDM. If you decide to reply to this post, include in your post what kind of IDM related style you prefer (i.e. straight up IDM <aphex, squarepusher>, experimental, or minimalist) TIA --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I like music that pushes musical boundaries- that tries something new. At the same time, I like music that makes me think. I am not one of those people that is adamantly against music that makes you dance- at the same time I do not judge a record on whether or not it is "danceable." It's all about hearing something I wouldn't expect- something new. BTW- I like all three of your options. No preferred style, really. -- :: atomly :: atomly@atomly.com | atomly@atdot.org | atomly@cyrus.net http://www.atomly.com | http://www.mp3.com/atomly [CELL|(888)522.3830] | [CELL|(701)729.1631] | [HOME|(651)748.8676] --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

hi kevin-- i cant speak for everyone but the things that i enjoy about 'experimental' music are the various timbers, textures, and acoustics of each sound. im not sure if 'acoustics' is the right word, im referring to how the sound comes across: what kind of reverb or echo it has on it, speaker location (if the sound appears in the left or right channel or moves between both...). i also like when a particular piece has a concept to it rather than "heres a bunch of sounds i made with my computer..". ive only had an interest in 'experimental' music over the past year so i cant name a lot of artists but i really enjoy kim cascone's music, farmers manual, a lot of the mego material, raster label stuff, etc. in particular ive been listening to "or some computer music #1" more often than my other discs. i think the pieces on this cd would be a good example of the kind of traits in 'experimental' music that i mentioned above. matt -------- www.spaceistheplace.org/ambientmafia
