Just listening to the 'Sluts'n'Strings and 909' CD by Carerra, which I've been enjoying quite regularly for, well, however long it's been since it came out, and thought "damn, it'd be nice to find some more along these lines". So, anything new by these folks, or other releases I should be grabbing? I have two Showroom Recordings 12"s on Cheap, didn't like 'Porno' by Pulsinger so much, and that's about all I've heard, give or take some remixes and comp appearances (on Future Sound of Jazz 2 & Stacey Pullen's DJ Kicks, and on Rebirth of Cool 6). Pulsinger and Tunakan (aka Sluts, Stings & 909) recently did a cool 12" under the guise Restaurant Tracks. It's a cool 4 tracker of experimental jazzy house, d&b and general wierdness. It's on his Cheap label. You'll also want to check out the The Private Lightning Six: They Came Down cd/2x12" on the Austrian Morbid label. Private Lighting Six is by Pulsinger & Tunakan as well as Potuznik, Soko, and a few others. This album contains nine tracks of experimental jazzy wierdness in the same style of the Restaurant Tracks & Sluts Stings & 909. -->-Lance--- p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states

Funny aside : in the book that comes with TEEX5, there's a story of how they met : apparently Tunakan was busy trying to steal Pulsinger's wallet at a market ... which has led to this fruitful collaboration :-) I *

the private lightning 6 2x12 is about half good, i paid the same as what the person selling it is asking and i still like it. if you like the 'showroom recordings' stuff, check out the gerhard potuznik records on cheap (gerard deluxe) and sabotage (gerard deluxxe : "spiral architect"), both of which are of the various speeds of electro-jazz (some slow, some junglish, some straight ahead electro). sokol's "mean clown welcome" (cheap) is a sparer, loungey 4 tracker that is a nice find if you can get it at a reduced price. patrick pulsinger also did a crappy remix of a ken ishii track that sounded like he was trying to hammer the final nail in ishii's coffin. oh, and if you haven't heard "starchild," the sluts 'n strings 'n 909 track from the "from beyond" series (interdimensional transmissions), well, <insert admonishment>... eric

i haven't heard the potuznik vs sokol ep but i know that Uptight just released a new ep by Sluta Leta called Space is the Place. The style of this one is experimental electronica with a spacey trip hop feel. Sluta Leta also released eps on Cheap & Mego. btw: i believe uptight is another vienna based label. -->-Lance--- p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states

hmm, sluta leta has been creeping into the radar zone lately, but i haven't seen anything (seems no one is getting new cheap rekks around here anymore). something to watch out for?

yeah, it is. who's the enterprising freak who'll fly the vienna posse out? i've heard glowing remarks about patrick pulsinger's dj'ing style. eric onnow: superficial depth : digital superimposing (side effects)

bent crayon, the place where i get all my records, has been getting all the cheap, uptight & mego stuffs. in fact i just listened to the sluta leta 12"s on cheap and uptight there on wednesday afternoon. feel free to e-mail them at bcrayon@bentcrayon.com if you're interested in those 12"s...

supposedly there will be a short rancho relaxo allstars tour here in the states in september. in case you don't know, rancho relaxo allstars are abe duque, dietrich schoenman, khan, mika vanio (panasonic), patrick pulsinger and a few others. also sluts, strings & 909 played live here in the states a few months ago at the From Beyond party. pulsinger also did a small dj tour here in the states earlier this summer. -->-Lance--- p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states

the thing about bent crayon is that they have so much stock. there's never going to be a chance for them to institute something as useful as online listening if they're composing weekly mailings of 200+ releases _with_ reviews. cheap has put out some records that i wouldn't take for free, so while certain records are indispensible on cheap, they're really a hit and miss label and i wouldn't buy anything sound-unheard from a lot of these labels. unless i know the artist/release well in advance (e.g. something i've been waiting for, like andrea parker's "ballbreaker"), i won't buy it without hearing it first, and even realaudio is better than listening over the phone.

there's always MDOS, mego's direct mail-order, online, with tons of realaudio. . . http://www.mdos.at/ .jeff / chris. .do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own . you may both be wrong .

I picked it up slightly after the comp 'Vienna Tone' was released. The comp has several tracks off Uptight - including a real goody off the abovementioned 'Seven Up' - so I started seeking some more out. No sign of anything recently off that label though... I just picked up the latest Sluta Leta effort on Cheap last night - funny to log on to check my mail and see them mentioned. I really enjoy the way they tread the line between freaked out sounds, particularly harmonically, and quite groovy rhythms. I don't find them particularly consistent, but I'm sure big Mego fans would get into it in a big way. What I wanted to touch on when I first asked about Pulsinger and the rest was: are there other people who sound like the more punchy, sometimes more hiphop influenced, Sluts'n'Strings & 909 material? I do like a lot of the more jazzy stuff, and the more "experimental" (soulless? :) stuff, but I want some more funky shit. ;) Michael "You know what?
