Friends, I think it's time for me to make the leap from bedroom DJ to bedroom producer. I'm looking for a sampler that I can keep expanding and growing with. I have my eyes on the Akai MPC-2000. Any reviews? Any other sampler in the same price range (~$1,300) with similar features I should look into? I basically need a good sampler with a powerful sequencer. I'm also debating where to store the samples. Floppies aren't my favorite. Is it possible to replace the floppy drive with a hard disk/zip drive. Any and all leads gladly welcomed. My feeling is that for the money there's no better sampler than the Yamaha A3000. Of course, the MPC2000 has pads and a sequencer, and that's very nice if you want to play live. Then again, if you like using a computer you'll probably end up writing your songs using a software sequencer anyway. My recommendation: look at the A3000 and that new EMU one. bbn PS: I'm not positive, but I think the synthesis capabilities of the MPC2000 are pretty limited as well. That's a pretty major drawback.
