Dettinger's "Intershop" CD is seven untitled tracks of very warm and fuzzy Cologne minimalism. Dettinger is smart enough to realize "minimal" does not necessarily mean "unpleasant", it just means "selective", so what we have hear are grainy, warm, friendly instrumentals that operate on the Mike Ink principle (basic tracks that grow increasingly deep and mind-expanding) without resorting to the dancefloor hi-hat and bass drum kick. One of the top two or three albums this year. Dettinger also has three 12"s, which I see referred to as: Blond (Kompakt) Puma (Kompakt) Totentatz (Kompakt) I'm not sure, and someone will surely correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the first two 12"s _are_ the CD. I dunno. That's just what I assumed, so I didn't buy those two 12"s. But the third one is definitely new tracks, as it just came out last week (and I'm desperate to pick it up! Why can't I live near Bent Crayon or Hardwax!?) Dettinger for me is operating in the upper echelon of Cologne, where only the Bionaut and Air Liquide reside. ***Actually the 12" material you list above is his more DJ/dance/uptempo oriented material, and is available on 12" only. The material on Dettinger's "Intershop" CD is, while still super good, more of a downtempo companion to the 12"s and the CD material is all exclusive to the CD and has not been released elsewhere or on 12". So the CD and the 12"s have no crossover other than that they're all by the same guy. If you like the CD and want to investigate his more uptempo material, I'd advise you to check out the 12"s as well. Andrew Duke

Just a funny Dettinger story... There were a few people having dinner here at my parent's house last night. I had the Dettinger CD playing softly in the background. A woman asks us if that is the clothes dryer she is hearing! Now that I think about it, the random clicks and pops do sound like the metal bits of a pair of jeans hitting the inside of a tumble dryer, that is what she thought she was hearing. I felt odd telling her that it was actually a CD... Okay ... another Dettinger story :-) I recently gave a copy of Intershop to a close friend whose new girlfriend recently moved in with him. Apparently she just loves listening to it while she's on the exercise bicycle. Yep, confirmed. It surprises me how many people who would know that have ended up hearing the Dettinger track. :-) Michael np. //mp3.com/timeline -+- Jet Jaguar MP3s http://mp3.com/jetjag/ -+- --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
